JAGS TO CONTINUE NON-CONFERENCE SLATE AT EIU

IUPUI (3-2-1) comes in seeking second road win of the year

Live Stats

CHARLESTON, Ill. - The IUPUI women's soccer team will continue their longest road stretch of the 2016 season on Friday afternoon (Sept. 9) when the Jaguars face Eastern Illinois (1-4) in Charleston at 3:00 p.m. Eastern. The match is the fourth of five straight road games on the Jaguars' non-league slate.

IUPUI (3-2-1) is coming off a two-game trip that saw the Jaguars earn a tough draw at Marshall (2-2) on Friday night before falling at VMI on Sunday afternoon, 1-0. Seniors Sierra Bryant and Tori Minnich tallied the Jags goals at Marshall while Hayley Shelton, Maryna Clark and Alyssa Fox collected assists. Sunday's shutout at VMI was the first time the Jags have been blanked this season.

The Jaguars offense has been dynamic all season long, outscoring foes 15-8 overall, while four Jags (Shelton, Minnich, Catherine Raster and Bryant) have multiple goals already this season. Minnich leads The Summit League with four goals while Clark has a Summit League-best five assists in six games. Shelton leads The Summit in total points with nine (3 goals, 3 assists). Junior goalie Catherine Schmidt is second in The Summit League with 27 saves and has played virtually every second in net thus far this season.

Seven different players have made their collegiate debuts this season while freshman Courtney Hodge leads the rookies with 289 minutes played. Defenders Maddie Riedford and Becca Spitalniak lead the team's field players with 443 minutes played.

QUOTABLE
""This was definitely a winnable game, so it's disappointing in that regard. Seven or eight times, we rolled balls across their box and the chances that we've been finishing all year, we just didn't finish today."  - Head Coach Chris Johnson said after the 1-0 loss at VMI.

SCOUTING EIU (1-4 overall, 0-1 home)

Eastern Illinois is 1-4 overall on the year and 0-1 on their home pitch with a loss coming to Indiana State (2-0). The Panthers lone win was a 2-1 victory over Chicago State last Friday night. EIU has been outscored by foes 10-2 on the season with Hannah Heinz and Henar Urteaga accounting for the team's goals. Sara Teteak has started all five matches in net and has a 1.97 goals against average and 38 saves already this season.

INSIDE THE SERIES

IUPUI is 1-4-2 all-time against Eastern Illinois and 1-2 in the three meetings in Charleston. The two teams played to a scoreless draw last season in Indianapolis with Catherine Schmidt earning the shutout in goals. IUPUI outshot the Panthers 22-14 in that contest with Krissy Kirkhoff (9) and Tori Minnich (6) teaming on 15 attempts.
The Jaguars' lone win in the series was a 3-2 victory in Charleston in 2014 as Kirkhoff scored all three goals. The goals yielded came on PK's in the 79th and 81st minutes before Kirkhoff tallied the game-winner in the 83rd minute.

NEXT UP
IUPUI will return to Indianapolis to face Butler in non-conference action on Tuesday night (Sept. 13) at the Butler Bowl at 7:00 p.m..
