MEN'S SOCCER DISPATCHED AT DEPAUL, 3-0

Jags slip to 0-4 to start the season

CHICAGO - The IUPUI men's soccer team continued to find the road unkind as the Jaguars were dumped at DePaul, 3-0 on Sunday (Sept. 11). DePaul's Jake Scheper netted the game-winner in the 17th minute as the Blue Demons improved to 3-0 on their home pitch this season.

IUPUI fell to 0-4 with the loss.

The Jaguars fell behind in the 17th minute when Scheper snuck a shot past sophomore goalie Josh Gray off assists from John Freitag and Philipp Koenigstein. IUPUI had its share of the run of play in the first half, including a flurry that saw the guests just miss getting on the board. Freshman Pedro Valladao had an initial shot go wide and moments later, IUPUI was awarded a corner kick. On the ensuing restart, sophomore back Ben Thornton was on the connecting end, but drove his header high of target.

DePaul (3-1-2) got some breathing room just before halftime when Simon Megally tallied a penalty kick goal. The Blue Demons were awarded a PK when Gray only option to stop a breakaway was to pull down the attacker inside the penalty area. Gray guessed right on the attempt, but Megally blasted his shot into the upper right corner for a 2-0 lead.

Junior Pape Ndiaye was the focal point of the offense after halftime, but IUPUI was still unable to solve a pair of DePaul keepers. Freitag put the hosts ahead 3-0 in the 74th minute when he angled a header past Gray for the game's final goal.

Ndiaye had a shot cast aside in the 83rd minute for a corner kick and had a header attempt snared by reserve goalie Trevor Wilson in the game's final minute.

DePaul outshot the Jags 10-8 overall and 7-2 on frame. Ndiaye attempted a game-high five shots from his forward position and both of IUPUI's shots on goal.

Gray made four saves in his third collegiate start while DePaul's Quentin Low made one save in the win.

IUPUI will hit the road again this week as the Jaguars play at Grand Canyon on Thursday, Sept. 15 in Arizona.
