INDIANAPOLIS – Playing in their final non-conference game of the season, the IUPUI women's basketball team (9-3) is slated to face NAIA opponent IU-Northwest (13-3) Wednesday (Dec. 28) at 5 p.m. EST in a men's-women's doubleheader at the Indiana Fairgrounds, as the Jags will make their season debut at the Coliseum. This is the first of back-to-back games the Jags will play at the Fairgrounds.
The Jags are coming off their history-making 67-62 victory over Purdue (Dec. 21), the first time the team topped the Boilermakers in program history. It marked the second time in program history the Jags defeated a Big Ten opponent, and the first time in sixteen years. In the same game,
Mikale Rogers became the 23rd player in IUPUI history to top 1,000 points for her career.
On the season, the Jags are led by
Danielle Lawrence who averages 15.5 points per contest. Rogers averages 14.8 points and 7.7 rebounds, and has amassed 30 blocks.
Sydney Hall continues to average in double figures, collecting 10.5 points per game. The Jags are collectively shooting .444 this season, also shooting .376 from three-point range. IUPUI averages 70.2 points per game, while surrendering 59.5 points on a .395 opponent's shooting percentage.
IU-Northwest has won back-to-back games since dropping their second contest of the season to top-ranked Marian. The Redhawks are currently ranked 13th in NAIA women's basketball rankings. IU-Northwest started the season by winning five-straight games, only losing to Marian and third-ranked Dakota Wesleyan since. This marks the first meeting between the Jags and Redhawks in program history.
