INDIANAPOLIS – Another addition for IUPUI volleyball, Head Coach Steve Payne and the program have announced the addition of Madeleine Dean to the 2017 signing class.  The outside hitter has signed her national letter of intent (NLI) and will continue her playing career at IUPUI.
 
"Maddie brings in some good size to our outside hitting position," Coach Payne said of the addition.  "She also has good experience playing at a higher level through her Indiana club team."
 
Dean joins the Jags out of Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis, while also competing for the Team Indiana Elite Asics.  At 5' 11", the hometown kid joins the Jags after being named an Academic All-State Honorable Mention and a 4A ICGSA All-State Second-Team selection this past year.  She was an All-Conference selection in the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference in 2015 and 2016, and an All-Marion County selection both years.  Dean was a 2015 LN Sports Athlete Character award recipient and the LNVB most valuable player (MVP) in 2015 and 2016. 
 
At Lawrence North, she was named a co-captain while playing as a six-rotation outside hitter.  Dean set the school record with 523 points in 2015, while leading the team with 447 kills that season.  Academically, Dean carried a 3.912 grade point average (GPA) and comes from a family of athletes. Her father, Scott, was a four-year letterwinner in basketball at Taylor University while her mother, Laurel, starred in volleyball and was inducted in the Trojans' Hall of Fame in 2009. 
 
IUPUI volleyball is set to take part in the Summit League Tournament (Nov. 18-20) for the fifth-straight year, dating back to 2012.
