FORT WAYNE, Ind. - After playing two straight non-conference matches, the IUPUI men's soccer team will return to Summit League play on Saturday night (Oct. 29) when the Jaguars take on in-state foe Fort Wayne at 7:00 p.m.. The Jags enter play seeking their first Summit League win of the year while the Mastodons are 1-3 in league play.
SCOUTING THE JAGUARS (1-13-1 overall, 0-4 Summit)
IUPUI is 1-13-1 on the year and stopped a six-game losing streak on Wednesday night (Oct. 26) with a 1-1 draw with Northern Kentucky. Junior forward
Uriel Macias has scored three of the team's six goals while
Pape Ndiaye,
Jordan Parron and
Josh Ayala have the other tallies.
The trio of
Ben Thornton,
Pedro Valladao and Thornton are tied for the team-high with two assists each.
Defensively, sophomore
Josh Gray has started 13 of the 15 matches in goal and has a 2.46 goals against average and 64 saves for a .667 save percentage. Redshirt freshman
James Mitchison has started the other two matches, recording a 3.15 GAA and 13 saves in 200 minutes.
SCOUTING FORT WAYNE (8-8 overall, 1-3 Summit)
Fort Wayne is 8-8 overall and 5-3 on its home pitch this season. The 'Dons lone league win was a 3-1 victory over Oral Roberts in Fort Wayne.
Jacob Murphy and Oscar Uyamadu have a team-high seven goals and Zach Tom has five tallies. Will Hunt has a team-high four assists and Edel Ensaldo-Bustos has three assists.
Defensively, Jorge Trujillo has played the bulk of the team's minutes in goal, registering a 1.95 goals against average and 41 saves against 24 goals allowed. Raphael Kotzock has made six appearances and four starts with a 1.51 GAA and 20 saves.
ACADEMIC HONORS
Head Coach Brian Barnett's Jaguars earned NSCAA All-Academic Team honors on Thursday for their work in the classroom during the 2015-16 year. The men's team registered a 3.32 grade point average during the 2015-16 academic year, collecting the program's seventh award in school history (2004, 2007, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2015 & 2016).
INSIDE THE SERIES
IUPUI is 13-9-1 all-time against Fort Wayne, including last year's 3-0 victory. Fort Wayne-native
Nick Anderson scored the game-winner in that match and Macias added a goal and an assist.
The Jags have won five of the past seven meetings in the series.
LAST TIME OUT
IUPUI played NKU to a 1-1 draw on a rain soaked Wednesday night (Oct. 26) at the on-campus Michael A. Carroll Stadium. Ndiaye scored his first career goal off assists from
Nathan Silva and Thornton in the opening stages of the second half to account for the Jaguars' offense. Ndiaye had his most effective match of the season, ripping off nine shot attempts from his forward position.
In goal, Mitchison earned the result, collecting nine saves in his second career start.

IUPUI will cap the non-conference slate on Monday night (Oct. 31) as the Jaguars take on Valparaiso at 7:30 p.m.. That match will be broadcast on ESPN3, beginning at kickoff.
