JAGS SUFFER 2-0 SETBACK AT ORAL ROBERTS

IUPUI drops to 0-4 in Summit League play

TULSA, Okla. - In what has been the story of the second half of the men's soccer season, the defense put up a formidable effort but the offense was blanked by Oral Roberts in a 2-0 defeat on Saturday night (Oct. 15).

Oral Roberts (6-6-1, 2-2 Summit) scored the game's go-ahead goal in the 15th minute and added late insurance as the Jaguars pushed forward in an effort to get equal.

ORU outshot the Jags 19-8 and held a 9-4 margin on corner kicks.

ORU took the early lead on Tyler Hill's strike, setup by Corey Cantor's assist. Cantor whipped in a cross from the left side to Hill, who beat sophomore Josh Gray with an attempt. After yielding the initial goal, IUPUI's Uriel Macias nearly evened the score in the 16th minute when he hit a shot right at ORU keeper Thibaut Giquel.

In fact, IUPUI (1-12, 0-4 Summit) played much of the first half in Oral Roberts' end of the field, but was unable to maintain possession up top and get to the finishing third.

The second half saw the Jaguars push forward more in an effort to claim at least a point on the road. Freshman Brice Tchamou put a shot on frame in the 66th minute that Giquel batted away for an IUPUI corner kick. Moments later, freshman Alan Aguilar flared a shot just over the bar from distance.

IUPUI's best scoring chance of the second half came in the 83rd minute when Sean Siasia played in service from the right side. The ball found the feet of Macias, who angled a shot just wide of the far post and over the endline.

Just more than three minutes later, ORU got an insurance goal when Santiago Riveros sprung Cantor free on a counter. Cantor carried the ball up the right side before slotting a shot past Gray inside the far post for the capper.

Gray finished with five saves while Macias attempted a team-high three shots, putting two on target.

The loss all but ended the Jaguars chances of making the four-team Summit League Tournament in early November. IUPUI still has yet to face Fort Wayne and Eastern Illinois, but even with two wins, would fall short of the postseason due to head-to-head tiebreakers.

The Jags will return home for a non-conference match against Detroit on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 7:00 p.m. at Michael A. Carroll Stadium. Admission is FREE for IUPUI students with a valid JagTag and just $5 for adult tickets. IUPUI faculty and staff members are eligible for discounted tickets at the Stadium on the night of game and parking is FREE for all home soccer matches this season in the surface lot, directly across from the main entrance off New York Street.
