PAIR OF JAGS EARN COLLEGESWIMMING CONFERENCE SWIMMERS-OF-THE-WEEK

Veteran Jon Stoller and freshman Eline van den Bossche earned the honor after finishing first overall in the men's and women's Pentathlon events this past weekend.

SOMERS, Wis. – CollegeSwimming announced Wednesday (Oct. 12) that Eline van den Bossche and Jon Stoller of the IUPUI men's and women's swimming teams have been selected as Conference Swimmers-of-the-Week.  In total, 78 swimmers were selected from 42 conferences, with 36 coming on the men's side and 42 coming on the women's side.

Both swimmers recently earned the top spot in the men's and women's Pentathlons this past Saturday (Oct. 8) in the Natatorium.  The event featured swimmers from IUPUI and Western Illinois competing in five events for the top overall combined time.  The event consisted of the 100-yard Freestyle, 100-yard Breaststroke, 100-yard Backstroke, 100-yard Butterfly, and the 100-yard Individual Medley.

Van den Bossche finished with the top women's time of 5:06.34, taking the top overall time in the 100 Back and 100 IM events.  She was the only swimmer out of 27 total to finish the 100 Back in under a minute (58.93).  She just edged out veteran-teammate Maranda Buha, who finished just 1.25 seconds behind van den Bossche in her overall time.  Against the University of Indianapolis in the season opener for IUPUI (Oct. 6), van den Bossche finished with the top overall time in three events, taking the crown in the 100 Back, 200 Back and 200 IM events.  The freshman standout was crucial in keying the Jags to a 198-95 victory in the meet.

Stoller was the top overall swimmer on the men's side in the Pentathlon, locking in a 4:24.17 overall time through five events.  He secured the top overall times in the 100 Breast and 100 IM, and was one of three swimmers out of 26 total to finish the 100 Breast in under a minute (57.64).  The veteran junior helped the men's team defeat UIndy in their duel-meet, as the team came out on top, 166.5-133.5.

The standout duo will look to build on their early progress as the teams return to the pool to face Eastern Illinois Friday (Oct. 21) at 6 p.m. EST in the Natatorium.
