Live StatsLive VideoCINCINNATI, Ohio – IUPUI men's soccer travels down I-74 in hopes of finding their first win against Cincinnati in a Monday night (Sept. 14) contest. Both the Jags and Bearcats have lost three straight going into Monday night.
IUPUI (0-3-1) opened 2015 with a draw in Detroit (1-1) only to see three straight games slip away in dramatic fashion. The Jags followed the season-opening draw with an overtime loss to Butler (3-2), a heartbreaker to Western Michigan (1-0), and a double overtime defeat at the hands of Valparaiso (2-1).
In their most recent contest, the Jags found contributions from some new faces, including a goal from rookie
Trevor Semakula in his first appearance of 2015. Freshmen
Austin Sandel and
Jared O'Dell saw significant time in their debuts as well.
Cincinnati (2-3) opened the season with two victories before dropping their last three. The Bearcats have scored six goals in five matches while the Jags have netted four goals in as many games. Senior Alejandro Garcia leads the charge for UC with three of the team's goals.
With both squads looking to turn the tide, the difference could come at the hands of each keeper. IUPUI senior
Eduardo Cortes has yet to get a win in 2015, but the Dallas, Texas native boasts 19 saves in four matches and a save percentage of .731. Cortes single-handedly kept the Jags in last Friday's match against Valpo with a pair of acrobatic deflections in the 90th minute and overtime.
UC keepers Alex Gill and Pedro Diaz have combined for 16 saves in five matches and a shared save percentage of just .586.
Monday's match is set for 7 p.m. at Gettler Stadium. The Jags will try to get a win under their belt before heading to Nashville, Tenn. for the Lipscomb Invitation later this week.
