INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI Department of Athletics and head women's basketball coach Austin Parkinson announced on Monday that Parkinson has agreed to a two-year extension keeping him as the head coach of the Jaguars through the 2019-20 season.

In five seasons with the Jaguars, Parkinson has directed IUPUI to a pair of 20-win seasons, two postseason WNIT and four straight Summit League Semifinals appearances. The two WNIT invitations are the Jaguars only postseason contests since joining the D-I ranks in the 1998-99 season.

"I am extremely grateful to the administration for their support and commitment to our basketball program. We have been blessed to have quality young women, tremendous families and a special group of coaches striving for excellence," Parkinson said. "My wife and I love being part of the growth of IUPUI and look forward to continuing to build this program."

Since taking over the reigns of a three-win team in 2010, Parkinson has coached six All-Summit League performers, one Summit League Defensive Player of the Year and the reigning Summit League Sixth Woman of the Year in Mikale Rogers.

In 2012-13, Parkinson directed the Jags to a 20-12 overall record, including a 12-4 Summit League mark that earned him Summit League Coach of the Year honors. While he fell just shy of earning the league's top coaching honor in back-to-back seasons, Parkinson and the Jaguars went 23-10 in 2013-14, which included a WNIT victory at Central Michigan – the team's first postseason victory in its D-I history.

The 2015-16 season will be Parkinson's sixth with the program, and he welcomes back 10 returners from last year's squad including Second-Team All-Summit League selection Akilah Sims. His veteran squad blends with three true freshmen and one redshirt freshman, giving Parkinson his most experienced squad in his tenure.

"We have hungry group of young ladies who are focused on the daily process of being successful," Parkinson said. "This team has talent, depth, and experience, which should make for an exciting upcoming season."
