Following the game, Junior Jag Club members are invited to come on the floor to shoot baskets and exchange high fives with IUPUI players.Â
On the court, IUPUI (7-13, 3-3) is coming off a tough overtime loss to league leader North Dakota State on Thursday. The Jaguars saw a potential game-winning three hit off the back iron at the end of regulation and the visiting Bison took advantage, storming out to a nine-point lead in overtime on way to an eight-point win. Aaron Brennan and P.J. Boutte led the Jaguars with 10 points each in the loss. Basketball at Indiana Farmers Coliseum has easily become one of the best values in the city as four of the Jaguars' seven home games have gone to overtime already this season. IUPUI is now 2-2 at home in overtime and 2-3 overall in OT contests.Â
QUICK HITTERS- IUPUI has alternated wins and losses for 11 games now, most recently dropping a 69-61 overtime loss to North Dakota State on Thursday.Â
- IUPUI has now played overtime in four of seven home games and five games overall this season.Â
- IUPUI has already surpassed last year's win total (6) and the program's league win total from the last two years combined (2).
- In six league games, IUPUI is outshooting and outrebounding opponents, although the Jags are -1.7 turnovers per game in Summit League play.Â
- Senior
Khufu Najee became the 10th different Jaguar to lead the team in scoring this season with his 11 points at ORU. IUPUI has had 10 different players score in double-figures in a game and boasts nine players scoring between 4.0 and 8.8 points per game. No IUPUI player has scored in double-digits in more than seven of the team's 20 games.
- Senior
DavRon Williams has led IUPUI in rebounding in 12 of 20 games.
- More than 46% of IUPUI's points have come from the bench this year, including a season-high 52-points at Omaha. Â Â
- This marks the 43rd season of IUPUI basketball, beginning with the 1972 campaign.
- IUPUI will play every home game at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum this season in year one of a five-year pact. IUPUI last played home games at the Coliseum from 1975-79. The building was home to the Indiana Pacers from 1967-74. Â
- More than half of IUPUI's 13-man roster is newcomers this year. All total, the Jaguars welcome seven new faces this year with four Division I transfers and three true freshmen.
FIVE COUNT - QUICK TIDBITS FROM THE LAST GAMENorth Dakota State 69, IUPUI 61 (ot) - Jan. 22, 2015 (Indianapolis, Ind.; Indiana Farmers Coliseum)WORKING OVERTIME   IUPUI has now played overtime in four of seven home games, going 2-2 in those contests. All total, IUPUI has played five overtime games this season, going 2-3 in those outcomes.Â
MISSED OPPORTUNITYÂ Â Â IUPUI had a golden opportunity to pick off the league's top team on Thursday night, including having possession in a tie game with 32.2 seconds left in regulation and the shot clock turned off. However, didn't initially get a shot off as a pass was tipped out of bounds with 0.8 seconds left, giving the Jags the ball under their own basket. On the ensuing inbounds play, junior
Mason Archie, II missed a catch-and-shoot right wing three as time expired.Â
SECOND HELPINGSÂ Â Â North Dakota State essentially won the game by winning the glass, 36-27. Of NDSU's 36 boards, 12 came off the offensive glass, leading to 17 second chance points. The 17 second chance points were the most by an IUPUI opponent this season.Â
P FOR 3Â Â Â Not known as a three-point shooter, junior guard
P.J. Boutte got hot on Thursday, hitting a career-high three triples (in five attempts) to account for his nine points. The Indianapolis-native had made just 13 treys all season prior to Thursday's game, but is now shooting 60 percent (6-of-10) from deep in league play.Â
EVEN STEVENÂ Â Â Neither side led by more than four points for all 40 minutes of regulation before NDSU built a nine-point lead in overtime. The game featured 12 ties and 15 lead changes before the Bison led the entire overtime period.Â
PERSPECTIVEÂ Â Â IUPUI has already surpassed the program's win total from each of the past two years (6) and the program's league win total from the last two seasons combined (2 - 1 each in 2013 & 2014). Bear in mind, three of IUPUI's six wins a season ago came against non-Division I competition.Â
RPI CLIMBINGÂ Â Â As of Friday, IUPUI's RPI had climbed to 230 and has been on a steady ascent over the past month. The Jaguars' RPI was north of 300 for much of the non-conference schedule and IUPUI's final RPI was 322 a year ago.Â
FOURTH GRADÂ Â Â IUPUI gained national publicity earlier this season, entering the season with three players having already completed their degree requirements (Marcellus Barksdale, Khufu Najee and DavRon Williams). That group grew to four at the end of December as fourth-year junior Mason Archie finished his undergraduate course work as the Indianapolis-product is now pursuing his Master's degree.Â
UNCOMMON BALANCEÂ Â Â Nine different IUPUI players are averaging between 4.0 and 8.8 points per game, led by Marcellus Barksdale's 8.8 scoring average. IUPUI has had 10 different leading scorers (including ties) with P.J. Boutte, Marcellus Barksdale, Leo Svete, D.J. McCall, Khufu Najee, DavRon Williams, Jalen McCallum, Elijah Ray, Mason Archie and Aaron Brennan have each led the squad at least once.Â
IUPUI has 10 players averaging double-digit minutes.
LOW LEADERÂ Â Â Barksdale's 8.8 points per game scoring average would easily be the lowest total to lead the Jaguars in a single-season in program history. The lowest scoring output to lead the Jaguars in a season is 12.4 points per game by Charles Price in 2001-02.Â
HITTING 70Â Â Â IUPUI is 4-0 this season when scoring at least 70 points and 3-13 when failing to reach that number.Â
SLIM WINSÂ Â Â Â IUPUI is 6-2 in games decided by five points or less this season and have won their seven games by a combined 25 points. The Jaguars' largest margin of victory this season was the 71-65 victory over South Alabama on Dec. 20.Â
PLUS-THREEÂ Â Â After being clobbered on the glass for much of the non-conference season, IUPUI is +3.3 rebounds/game to start league play. It's been a collective effort as DavRon Williams leads the squad at 6.2 boards/game in Summit League play and eight Jags are grabbing at least two boards per contest.Â
FIRST HALVESÂ Â Â IUPUI is allowing just 24.5points per game in the first halves of Summit League games, and foes have shot just 37 percent (53-of-143) overall against the Jags in the first halves of Summit League games. Â Â
KNOCK DOWNÂ Â Â IUPUI is 7-3 this season when shooting a higher field goal percentage than its opponent and 0-10 when being outshot.Â
AB LEADS THE WAYÂ Â Â Since the start of league play, freshman Aaron Brennan is shooting 68 percent (17-of-25) overall, but is one make shy of being eligible to qualify for the league leaders.Â
52 STRAIGHTÂ Â Â Junior Marcellus Barksdale has now started 52 straight games, dating back to the 2012-13 season opener. Barksdale is the only Jag to start every game this season.Â
BENCHMARKSÂ Â Â Marcellus Barksdale hit some career milestones at N.C. Central on Dec. 29, scoring his 500th career point and grabbing his 350th career rebound.Â
Two others are on the horizon as he's one assist shy of 200 and two steals short of 100 in his career.Â
MR. INDISPENSABLEÂ Â Â While Gardner has shown a deep and versatile bench, the one constant for the Jaguars this season is junior guard Marcellus Barksdale. The 6-foot-5 veteran is playing 32.5 minutes per game (7.6 more than his closest competitor), ranking among the league's top players. Barksdale leads the team in scoring (8.8 ppg), free throws made (55) and steals (40) and is second in rebounding (4.5 rpg) and assists (2.5 apg). His 40 thefts are tops in the league.Â
BENCH PRODUCTIONÂ Â Â Through 20 games, IUPUI's bench has scored 558 of the team's 1,210 points, equivalent to 46 percent of the team's scoring. The IUPUI bench has outscored the opposition in 17 of the season's 20 games.
MR. REBOUNDÂ Â Â Senior DavRon Williams has earned his stripes on the glass this season, accounting for IUPUI's top six rebounding games of the year. Included among those six are three double-digit rebounding efforts, including a career-best 13 at N.C. Central.
Williams has led IUPUI in rebounding in 12 of 20 games.
GRADE CHECK   Seven members of the team posted a 3.0 GPA or better during the fall semester. Included in that group were Aaron Brennan, Josh James, D.J. McCall, Khufu Najee, Matt O'Leary, Nick Osborne and Justus Stanback.  Â
