HOUSTON - The IUPUI men's soccer team scored three second half goals to rally to beat Houston Baptist on Saturday night (Sept. 13) at Sorrels Field, 3-1. IUPUI trailed 1-0 at the half, but got unassisted goals from Jonny Williams, Joshua Ayala and Emmanuel Usen to claim its first win of the season.

All three of IUPUI's Texas natives made an impact on the outcome after the Jaguars trekked more than 1,000 miles to face the Huskies. HBU (0-1-2) took the lead in the 40th minute when Gustavo Alvarado setup Thilo Borgmann's first goal of the season. Alvarado sent a long pass up the flank to Borgmann, who angled a shot past sophomore goalie Christian Lomeli from distance.

After trailing 1-0 at the break, IUPUI wasted little time in drawing even in the second stanza.

Williams, a sophomore, picked off a pass in the attacking third and directed a shot past HBU netminder Kevin Suarez in the 48th minute for his first goal of the season. Ayala, from nearby Cypress, Texas, got the go-ahead goal in the 57th minute on a free kick. Fellow freshman Ryan Olans created the free kick opportunity with a long run before drawing a foul just outside the 18-yard box.

Less than five minutes later, Usen played add-on, also on a free kick. The rookie from Katy, Texas, netted his second goal of the season on a restart.

Junior goalkeeper Eduardo Cortes, a Dallas-native, earned the win by making three saves in a scoreless second half. Cortes improved to 1-1 on the season with the victory. The win avenged the Jaguars' 2-1 loss to the Huskies at Carroll Stadium a season ago.

Offensively, IUPUI outshot the Huskies 13-8 overall and 8-6 on frame.

The Jaguars will now return home to face Dayton on Friday night (Sept. 19) before playing Northern Kentucky at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 21). Sunday's match will be streamed live on IUPUIJags.com as part of the IUPUI LIVE! streaming service.
