INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI Athletics Department and Head Women's Cross Country and Track Coach
Antonio McDaniel has announced the hiring of
Danielle Prince as assistant coach, effective immediately. Prince spent the past three years on staff at Western Michigan University where she worked specifically with the cross country and middle distance runners.
In 2014, Prince helped senior Aisha Hodge to a runner-up finish in the 800m at the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Indoor Championships and an NCAA East Regional Prelim qualifying time of 2:07.53. She previously coached Hodge to the 2013 MAC indoor championship in the 800. She also helped two Bronco DMR teams earn All-MAC honors (2012 and 2013).
She also recruited the largest distance classes in WMU's recent history, including landing seven freshmen prior to the 2013-14 campaign.
Prince competed at Indiana State University where she was the Missouri Valley Conference Champion in the 10,000m run and part of a DMR conference championship quartet. She earned All-MVC honors in the 5K and 3K and still holds the Sycamores outdoor 3,000m record of 9:49.99, set in 2007. The Bloomington, Ind.-native was ISU's cross country team captain in 2007.
After college, Prince continued to perform at a high level, competing with Team Indiana Elite. She was the 2008 Columbus Marathon Champion and earned top-10 finishes at the Indianapolis Mini Marathon in 2008 and 2010. She finished third at the National Sun Trust Half Marathon in Washington, D.C., in 2010.
Prince earned her B.A. in Elementary Education from ISU and later took over as Head Cross Country Coach at Bloomington High School South. She helped Bloomington South to its highest state finals finish in school history in 2009 and coached three All-State performers, including the 2010 state runner-up. She was the 2009 and 2010 Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association (ICGSA) and area Coach of the Year and later served as Nike Cross Country National (NXN) Midwest Team Manager.
