INDIANAPOLIS – A busy weekend of swimming is on tap this weekend for the IUPUI men's and women's swimming and diving teams when it hosts a tri-meet on Halloween, before hosting a traditional dual meet on Saturday, Nov. 1.
The Jaguars will host Summit League foe Western Illinois and Saint Louis on Friday, Oct. 31, at 6 p.m., before welcoming in Western Kentucky on Saturday for a 1 p.m. meet.
"We are excited to get back into competition this weekend. We have three high quality opponents coming in so we will need to be better than we were a couple weeks ago," head coach
Matt Bos said. "We are in the middle of a tough stretch of training as we usually are this time of year, so we will definitely some people to step-up and perform for us."
During its last weekend of competition, the men's team earned a win over Eastern Illinois before finishing second at the Indiana Intercollegiates, while the women's team claimed a pair of wins over EIU and Butler prior to a third-place showing at the Indiana Intercollegiates.
"The guys are getting some great leadership from the senior class and are off to a great start," Bos added. "
Tony Carroll and
Adam Ferguson will play a big part in any success we have. Both have the ability to swim multiple events and provide us great versatility individually and on relays."
In addition to what the upperclassmen are providing, Bos' younger nucleus has also stepped up early on with
Lennart Kuester,
Jon Stoller and
Aaron Brysch putting together strong performances.
"Our women are lacking depth in some areas, so we will need to make that up with some solid individual performances," Bos said. "Seniors
Margaret Barber,
Natalie Trout and Jenny Oleksiak have all been training great and we know we can count on them to perform well. We also have a couple of freshmen that have stepped up early on.
Tori Kroon has swam very well in training and throughout our first couple meets and we have gotten some added depth from
Stephanie Krause in some areas we were a little weak in."
