KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The IUPUI men's soccer team will step away from Summit League action to take on Western Michigan on Saturday (Oct. 4) at the WMU Soccer Complex. Kickoff is slated for noon Eastern.

IUPUI (2-5) utilized a full week of training to help erase the memory of last weekend's 4-0 loss at Fort Wayne. The Jaguars gave up three first half goals in a shutout road loss to the Mastodons in last week's Summit League opener.

Freshman Emmanuel Usen continues to lead the Jaguars with three goals scored while classmate Uriel Macias has a pair of goals and team-high 16 shots in seven games. IUPUI has been outscored 16-7 on the year as sophomore Christian Lomeli has a 1.80 goals against average in five starts. Junior Eduardo Cortes has a 3.50 GAA in his three appearances this season.

The young Jaguars have experienced growing pains in the season's early going, with seven freshmen having started at least one match already this year. Usen, Cristian Soto and Clint Hoffar are the only three Jaguars to have started all seven matches.

IUPUI is 3-4-1 all-time against WMU and 2-3-1 since playing at the Division I level, beginning in 1998. The Jaguars are unbeaten against the Broncos since 2007, having won three straight before the two teams played to a 1-1 draw in Kalamazoo in 2012. The two schools did not play last season.

WMU (6-3-1) has used a balanced attack this season with nine different players contributing at least one goal through 10 games. Nick Wysong and Connor Furgason pace the Broncos with three goals each and Sean Conerty has a team-high five assists. The Broncos have outscored their opponents 15-11 on the year as goalie Chase Rau has yielded just eight scores for a 0.97 goals against average.
