INDIANAPOLIS – Eight individual victories and a pair of relay wins led the IUPUI women's swimming and diving team to a pair of triumphs over Eastern Illinois and Butler Friday at the IUPUI Natatorium.
The Jags came way with a 155-48 win over Summit League foe Eastern Illinois and a 155-50 victory over crosstown rival Butler.
Things didn't go as smoothly as it could have in the opening event as IUPUI's 'A' team in the 400 medley relay was disqualified for an early take-off. Despite the miscue, the Jags 'B' team of
Tori Kroon,
Mary Klueh,
Stephanie Krause and
Madeline Bradford picked up the slack and won the event.
From that point, seven different Jags claimed victories in the nine individual events. It all started with
Margaret Barber winning the 1,000 free, before Kroon claimed her first collegiate individual win in the 200 free clocking in at 1:57.47.
Two events later,
Natalie Trout claimed the first of her back-to-back wins in the 400 IM. Trout timed in at 4:35.21 to win by more than 13 seconds, and it also marked the sixth-best time in program history. That win preceded a four-second win for Trout in the 200 fly, before
Madison Taylor,
Alexus Laird and Bradford placed first in the 100 free, 200 back and 500 free, respectively.
The individual events came to a close with
Jennifer Oleksiak claiming a nine and a half second win in the 200 breast.
The Jags relay finished the evening on a better note than it started when Laird, Barber, Trout and Taylor won by six seconds in the 400 freestyle relay.
IUPUI continues action on Saturday when it heads north to West Lafayette, Ind., for the Purdue Intercollegiates.
