INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI men's soccer team will return to the home pitch on Wednesday (Sept. 11) to host Houston Baptist University in a match to be streamed on
IUPUI LIVE! at 7:00 p.m.. IUPUI (0-2-2) earned a draw in its only decision at Michael A. Carroll Stadium this season while HBU is coming off a Monday night 4-1 loss at Butler.
Wednesday's match is Military Appreciation Night as the IUPUI ROTC will present the colors prior to the national anthem and there will be a pregame moment of silence for the tragic events that occurred on Sept. 11, 2001.
Admission to IUPUI soccer matches is free of charge but fans are
subject to university parking rates.
The Jaguars built some positive momentum with a 2-2 double overtime draw against Butler on Sept. 3. Both
Lance Davis and
Jonny Williams scored second half goals, the second of which knotted the match in the 81st minute. More recently, IUPUI dropped back-to-back road matches on a two-game swing through Virginia, first losing at Liberty 4-0, followed by a 3-1 loss at Longwood. Senior
Ian Block tallied his sixth career goal in the loss to Longwood.
Sophomore goalie
Eduardo Cortes yielded six of the seven goals on the two-game trip, while freshman
Christian Lomeli made his collegiate debut at Liberty and allowed a goal. Block leads the Jaguars with nine shot attempts and senior
Gregory Efiom has attempted seven in four matches.
HBU's (1-2) lone win of the season was a double overtime victory at Oral Roberts on Sept. 2 by a 2-1 score. Otherwise, the Huskies dropped a season opener at Central Arkansas and to Butler on Monday night. Tobenna Uzo leads the Huskies offense, having scored three of their four goals this season. In goal, George Kelley has a 2.05 goals against average and has six saves in three starts.
Wednesday's match marks the first meeting all-time between IUPUI and Houston Baptist in men's soccer.
