INDIANAPOLIS - Milwaukee junior guard Jordan Aaron scored a game-high 28 points and was one of three Panthers to tally at least 20 as UWM topped the Jaguars, 95-88 in double overtime in Ramada Worldwide BracketBusters action inside The Jungle on Saturday (Feb. 23). Senior Greg Rice led four Jags in double-digits with a career-high 23 points and seven boards while classmate Sean Esposito finished with 22 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

Junior P.J. Hubert added 16 points and Mitchell Patton finished with 11 points and eight rebounds before fouling out with 1:08 left in regulation.

IUPUI was held to just two points in the second overtime period in the seven-point defeat.

IUPUI (6-23) had to scramble to force overtime after trailing by as many as 11 in the first half and still being down four with 1:40 left after a Paris Gulley bank shot. On IUPUI's ensuing possession, Esposito and Hubert worked a two-man game on the right wing, resulting in Hubert swishing a trey with 1:25 left. Milwaukee pushed the lead back to three on a pair of Demetrius Harris free throws with 1:08 left, while Patton was disqualified in the process.

This time down, Hubert tied the score when he buried a trey off another feed from Esposito with 56 seconds left. However, that'd be the last time IUPUI would take possession in regulation. UWM's Aaron misfired on a three with 35 seconds left, but Kyle Kelm tracked down the offensive rebound, allowing the guests to call timeout with the shot clock off. Rice forced Aaron into a tough 16-footer and Esposito corralled the defensive rebound as time expired.

Neither team led by more than two in the first overtime, although Esposito put the Jaguars in front 86-84 with 37 seconds left when he hit his fourth three of the game. After a timeout, Aaron worked through traffic to tie the score with a twisting layup with 14 seconds left, giving IUPUI the last possession. After draining the clock inside six seconds, Rice worked from the right wing, but strong-armed a layup attempt at the final horn, sending the game to a second overtime.

IUPUI scored first when Esposito hit a short jumper, but Milwaukee scored the final nine points of the contest over the last 4:36 to claim its first road win of the year. Austin Arians put the Panthers in front with a three-point play and after Donovan Gibbs missed a jumper on IUPUI's next possession, Aaron hit a pair of free throws to make it a 91-88 game.

Hubert came up empty on a potential game-tying three with 2:03 to play and UWM responded with a Kelm free throw to push the lead to two possessions. A turnover and a missed layup ended the Jaguars' comeback hopes as Milwaukee claimed three steals in the final 79 seconds.

Harris closed with 21 points and nine boards (six offensive) off the UWM bench and Gulley added 20 points and seven rebounds. Gibbs had nine points and 15 caroms for IUPUI as the Jaguars outrebounded the Panthers, 50-43 on Saturday.

Aaron and Gulley staked Milwaukee (8-22) to an 11-point first half lead, teaming to hit 8-of-12 first half three-point tries. Gulley sparked a 12-2 run with back-to-back treys before Aaron capped the run with his fifth three of the first half to push UWM's lead out to 34-23. After a timeout, IUPUI closed the half with a 10-3 burst to make it 37-33 at the break.

Gibbs started the run with a three-point play and sophomore Jordan Shanklin continued it with a three. Patton scored IUPUI's final four points of the first half with layups. IUPUI led by as many as four in the second half, the last time coming with 5:05 to play when Gibbs stuck back an Esposito miss. However, Arians responded with a quick three and then Jordan collected a steal and raced the other way for a fast break layup. The Jaguars went empty the next three possessions until Esposito cut UWM's lead back to 70-69 with a left-handed layup.

By game's end, IUPUI outshot the Panthers by hitting 46.6 percent and yielding just 41 percent. However, UWM hit 13-of-32 (40.6 percent) from three-point range and outscored IUPUI 14-9 at the free throw line.

Esposito and Rice both played all 50 minutes while Gibbs and Hubert both played more than 40 minutes. IUPUI used the same quintet over the final 11:08 after Patton fouled out after having played just 25 minutes. Gaines picked up the slack, totaling four points and six rebounds (four offensive) in 30 minutes work. Shanklin was the only other IUPUI reserve to see action, playing nine minutes in the Jaguars' backcourt.

Both Esposito and Hubert hit four treys each while Aaron was 7-of-14 from deep for the Panthers. Gulley was 4-of-8 from deep off the UWM bench, but just 4-of-11 from inside the arc.

The loss pushed IUPUI's current losing skid to 13 and was the Jaguars' sixth straight home loss. It was IUPUI's first double overtime game since losing 85-77 at Kansas City on Jan. 20, 2011. The Jaguars dropped to 0-3 in overtime affairs this season with previous losses coming at Western Illinois and Fort Wayne. IUPUI dropped to 1-4 all-time against Milwaukee and will return the game to the Horizon League foe next season as part of the BracketBusters obligations.

In this expected to be the final year for the current BracketBusters format, IUPUI will finish its participation at 1-1 after having won at Nicholls State a year ago.

IUPUI will cap the 2013 regular season with back-to-back Summit League home games. The Jaguars will host South Dakota on Thursday, Feb. 28 in the backend of a league doubleheader. Game time is slated for approximately 7:30 p.m. with pregame coverage beginning on WNDE 1260 AM, WNDE.com and on the free iHeartRadio app at 7:15 p.m.. The game can also be seen on IUPUI LIVE! as Scott McCauley (pxp) calls the action.
