INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI basketball team will kickoff a three-game homestand, beginning Saturday (Feb. 23) when the Jaguars welcome Horizon League foe Milwaukee (7-22) as part of the Ramada Worldwide BracketBusters event. Tip-off is slated for 3:00 p.m. and that contest can be heard on WNDE 1260 AM with Scott McCauley's (pxp) pregame coverage beginning at 2:45. The game can also be viewed through the IUPUI LIVE! subscription service with the video starting right at tipoff.

As always, IUPUI students are admitted for free with a valid JagTag. In addition, former IUPUI Basketball camp attendees will be admitted for free on Saturday by wearing their official camp t-shirts.

The Jaguars (6-22) are trying to shake a 12-game losing streak, coming off a 75-39 loss at North Dakota State last Saturday (Feb. 16) night. Sophomore Lyonell Gaines scored a game-high 14 points off the Jags' bench, but was IUPUI's lone double-figure scorer. Senior Greg Rice added eight points and two steals, but IUPUI hit just 32.7 percent from the field for its second worst output of the campaign.

Junior center Mitchell Patton continues to lead the Jaguars in scoring (13.0 ppg) and is second on the squad in rebounding (5.0 rpg) and has a team-high 24 blocked shots. The 6-foot-9 lefty entered this week ranked 20th nationally in field goal percentage (56.9 percent), easily leading the team in that category. Behind him, junior forward Donovan Gibbs checks in at 10.4 points and 6.2 boards per game while Rice is at 8.3 points and 3.6 assists a night. Rice, a senior from Indianapolis, eclipsed the 100 assist mark for the season during last week's two-game road trip.

He and Gibbs are the only two Jaguars to have started all 28 games this year. IUPUI is limited to just seven scholarship players in uniform as the season winds down. The three true freshmen have yet to clock a minute this year while junior guard Ian Chiles and sophomore swingman Marcellus Barksdale are both out for the season due to injuries. Senior John Hart was declared ineligible at the start of the spring semester, forcing the coaching staff to add former Indianapolis-prep star Kevin Rose to the active roster as a walk-on. The 6-foot-6 Rose tallied his first career bucket at North Dakota State in four minutes of game action.

Milwaukee has won two of its past four ballgames, including a 64-53 Horizon League win over UIC on Wednesday (Feb. 20) night. The Panthers are led by guards Paris Gulley (14.3 ppg, 44 3's) and Jordan Aaron (14.1 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 4.1 apg) and forward Demetrius Harris (8.6 ppg, 5.1 rpg). Milwaukee is 0-15 this season away from home, including an 0-13 mark in true road games. The two schools met last season in Milwaukee as part of the Auto-Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational. The host Panthers won that contest, 62-49 as Barksdale was the lone Jag to reach double-digits with 12 points and two blocks off the bench.

IUPUI is just 1-3 all-time against the Panthers with the lone win coming in Indianapolis, 72-66 on Dec. 22, 1986. The three meetings since then have come in Milwaukee.

IUPUI has a natural roster tie to the Panthers as senior guard Ja'Rob McCallum transferred from Milwaukee this past summer. McCallum, a 6-foot guard, played in 70 games at UWM over three seasons, while making 33 starts. The Marion, Ind.-product is sitting out this season in compliance with NCAA Division I transfer rules, but will suit up for the Jaguars beginning next season.
