INDIANAPOLIS - Senior center Mitch Patton registered his sixth career double-double with 13 points and 12 boards and classmate Ja'Rob McCallum chipped in 12 points off the bench, but visiting Drake was way too much as the Bulldogs coasted to a 75-52 victory inside the Jungle on Sunday (Dec. 29) afternoon.

Chris Caird led four Drake (9-3) players in double-digits with 17 points and Jordan Daniels turned in 15 points and six assists. Aaron Hawley added 12 points, nine rebounds and three steals off the bench and Blake Danielak contributed 10 points and nine caroms.

Drake won the glass 49-30 and outscored the Jaguars 34-20 in the paint while limiting IUPUI to just 34.5 percent shooting.

The loss was IUPUI's fifth-in-a-row to close December after starting the month with three straight victories.

IUPUI started well and led 14-13 after Patton converted a three-point play off a nice pass from #P.J. Hubert# at the 13:52 mark. Both Ian Chiles and Patton scored seven points each in the game's first six-plus minutes, but the Bulldogs clamped down from there. A 12-0 DU run put the Bulldogs in front 25-14 before Marcellus Barksdale temporarily stopped the bleeding with a left-handed layup. The Jaguars crept within six when Barksdale his third trey of the season, but Drake finished the half strong and took a 42-27 halftime lead.

McCallum opened the second half with a corner three off a Chiles assist, but Drake took any momentum away when Trevor Berkeley thundered home a dunk off a Richard Carter feed. Later, IUPUI went nearly seven minutes without scoring as Drake rattled off a 15-2 run.

Drake finished hitting 41 percent from the field and 9-of-24 (37.5 percent) from three-point range. The Bulldogs hit 6-of-10 from three in the first half in building the 15-point halftime advantage. Caird was 4-of-7 overall and 3-of-6 from downtown to pace Drake.

Patton was 5-of-14 from the field and McCallum came off the bench to hit 4-of-5 from three-point range, all in the second half. Barksdale also finished in double-digits, ending with 11 points, five rebounds and four assists. The 6-foot-5 guard had his string of three straight double-doubles come to an end on Sunday. Chiles was also held under 10 in the scoring column for the first time all year, finishing with nine points in 32 minutes. The 6-foot-1 guard from Louisville had scored in double-digits in 16 straight games dating back to last season prior to Sunday's contest.

With the loss, IUPUI dropped to 1-1 all-time against Drake and 1-3 against Missouri Valley foes this season. The Jaguars lone win came at Bradley while IUPUI dropped a home contest to Evansville and a recent road game at Indiana State.

The Jaguars will continue the four-game homestand on Thursday, Jan. 2 when they host Judson in a 7:00 p.m. tip-off inside The Jungle. Admission to Thursday's game will be FREE of charge.
