INDIANAPOLIS – Five swimmers combined for eight individual victories leading the IUPUI women's swimming and diving team to a pair of wins over Valparaiso and Butler Friday evening in its first home meet this season at the IUPUI Natatorium.
"This was a nice way to start the weekend," head coach Matt Bos said. "I thought Maddie Bradford stepped up for us in the 200 back and she is one of those freshmen that have swam really well for us early on."
After a win in the 400 medley relay to start things off,
Vanessa Roop picked up the first of her two victories on the night in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:49.30. Roop later went on to win the 500 free clocking a mark of 5:18.84
Following a win in the 1,000 free,
Margaret Barber and
Natalie Trout earned a 1-2 finish in the 200 free with Barber winning the event in 1:55.77, while Trout touched the wall in 1:58.32.
Madeline Bradford and
Mary Klueh continued the string of victories in the 100 back and 100 breast, respectively, with Bradford winning the back in 59.78 and Klueh winning the breast in 1:08.23. The duo would make it a perfect sweep later in the evening with Bradford winning the 200 back (2:08.56) and Klueh claiming the 200 breast (2:30.91).
The final individual win of the night came in the 100 free where
Alexus Laird sprinted to a winning time of 53.87.
Sarah Rozow added a time of 2:17.54 in the 200 IM that would have garnered her top honors if the Jags didn't already have the meet in hand.
The divers performed for the first time this season and
Melissa Berger notched the top scores in both the 1- and 3-meter with marks of 205.57 and 191.70.
The Jags are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 9, when they take on Wright State beginning at Noon.
