COLUMBIA, Mo. - Missouri junior Jabari Brown scored a career-high 24 points on 5-of-8 threes and backcourt mate Jordan Clarkson tossed in 22 as the host Tigers picked off IUPUI, 78-64 inside Mizzou Arena on Monday (Nov. 25) night. IUPUI senior Ja'Rob McCallum scored a season-high 14 points off the bench and junior Ian Chiles added 12 in the loss.

Freshman Justus Stanback came off the bench to score 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting before fouling out.

Missouri (5-0), which came in receiving votes in this week's AP and Coaches Polls, raced out to a quick 8-0 lead and never looked back, extending its home winning streak to 22. Behind Chiles, IUPUI (1-5) clawed back within five at 13-8 on back-to-back drives to the hole, but Brown's consistent three-point shooting continued to stifle the Jaguars. His third three of the first half ignited a quick 7-0 run that put the Tigers in front 23-10 before Stanback stopped the bleeding with a 14-footer from the baseline.

Missouri pushed the lead out to 41-25 late in the first half before taking a 47-34 advantage to the break. IUPUI shot 50 percent from the floor in the first half, but Missouri connected on better than 53 percent of its attempts.

IUPUI's offensive executive was solid in the second half as they crept within seven after intermission. However, Mizzou seemingly always had the answer.

After trailing by as many as 15 after intermission, the Jaguars crawled within 57-50 with 11:51 remaining when Mitch Patton converted a three-point play after rebounding a McCallum miss. MU's Wes Clark answered with a trey from behind a screen, but Patton came back with another putback to get the Jags back within single-digits.

This time, Clarkson hit a jumper and the Jaguars misfired on a trey, leading to a Brown dunk in transition and prompting Head Coach Todd Howard to call timeout.

"I haven't seen a team this athletic or long in 10 years," Howard said. "They are unreal on the break and I think we did a good job of keeping them out of transition – I really did. They hit some threes, they were good in transition, they were good on the glass and our turnovers doomed us."

Nine first half IUPUI turnovers led to 13 Mizzou points, but the second half saw the Jags turn it over just three times. IUPUI opened the game with back-to-back turnovers, largely in part to the Tigers' pressure defense on the perimeter.

The game's final dagger came with just under five minutes to play when Clarkson stroked his second trey of the night, pushing the hosts lead out to 73-61. Trailing by nine after a Chiles 12-footer, the Jaguars got a much needed defensive stop, but came up empty on the ensuing possession when Stanback was too strong on an open wing three. IUPUI locked in defensively, but Clarkson swished a three with the shot clock running down, ending the Jaguars' upset hopes.

Clarkson was 10-of-13 from the floor and added four assists and three boards in 33 minutes work. Freshman Johnathan Williams III closed with a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double up front. Missouri finished the game shooting 50.9 percent from the field and 8-of-19 (42.1 percent) from three.

The Jaguars cooled to 44 percent for the game after making just 13-of-33 second half attempts.

"We got good looks and executed our (offense)," Howard said. "They just didn't fall. We missed some jumpers that we normally make and that's part of it. We left some points at the line and gave them some second chances - who knows, you convert those free throws and hit some of the open shots and maybe it's a different game."

After struggling for much of the season, the Jaguars' bench came up with 25 key points from McCallum and Stanback on a combined 11-of-18 shooting. Redshirt freshman Elijah Ray also played a key role, grabbing three boards in eight minutes. McCallum made 6-of-11 shots and handed out a pair of assists.

"(Ja'Rob)'s one of our transition guys," Howard said. "He's just not 6-6, 230 – he's 5-10, 159. He was very good in transition and he was very good tonight. He's a gamer – he's an experienced kid and I thought he really pieced together good with what we were doing (offensively)."

Patton scrapped his way to eight points and seven boards against Missouri's incredibly athletic front line, while Donovan Gibbs closed with nine points on 4-of-6 shooting. The 6-foot-9 Patton struggled to get touches on the blocks, scoring two of his three baskets on putbacks of teammates' misses. Sophomore guard Marcellus Barksdale, who came into play leading The Summit League in defensive boards, grabbed a team-high nine caroms (eight defensive) and delivered five assists.

The win was Mizzou's 77th straight home non-conference victory and dropped the Jaguars to 0-6 all-time against the Southeastern Conference.

The Jaguars will continue the four-game 2013 Continental Tires Las Vegas Invitational on Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 28) when they face Gardner-Webb inside Orleans Arena at 11:30 a.m. Pacific (2:30 Eastern). Thursday's game will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools. That contest can be heard on WNDE 1260 AM and on the free iHeartRadio app as Will Flemming (pxp) is on the call.
