INDIANAPOLIS – A South Dakota State goal with a little more than six minutes to play in the first half proved to be the difference and it sent the Jackrabbits past the IUPUI women's soccer team, 1-0, Sunday afternoon at Carroll Stadium.

The loss dropped the Jaguars to 4-5-3 overall and 0-2-0 in the Summit League, while SDSU remained perfect in the league at 2-0-0 and improved their overall mark to 7-3-2.

IUPUI controlled the action from the outset and was the aggressor, but it was South Dakota State that took advantage of one of its select scoring chances.

"We controlled the possession in their end of the field, we had more shots on goal then they had, but it just didn't translate into goals in the back of the net and we have got to make that happen," head coach Chris Johnson said.

IUPUI took charge from the start forcing the action in its offensive half of the field. Its first opportunity to strike came in the 14th minute when Taylor Heidorn crossed the ball from the right wing to a streaking Sierra Bryant. Bryant headed the ball toward the right post, but the ball went just right of the post.

Six minutes later, Kalli Shepler-Tucker got a solid strike from 25 yards out, but SDSU's Nicole Inskeep didn't have to range far to make the save. Inskeep continued to keep her squad in the game after making a diving stop on a Tori Minnich shot, which came off a Sarah Carlisle cross in the 27th minute, before SDSU capitalized on one of its few opportunities.

With the clock approaching six minutes, the Jackrabbits McKenzie Wolf crossed the ball from the right wing to the left post and after a touch, Delaney Ratcliffe punched in a goal just inside the right post to put SDSU in front, 1-0.

After outshooting the Jackrabbits 5-4 in the first half, SDSU packed in their defense in the final 45 minutes trying to preserve the win and limited the Jags to just one shot on goal. That shot came from about 35 yards out and it was an easy save for Inskeep. IUPUI controlled the possession but was unable to get another attempt on goal as SDSU emerged with the one-goal victory.

The Jags are back in action on Friday, Oct. 11, when it heads to Indiana State for a 7 p.m. tilt with the Sycamores. Following Friday's match, IUPUI will resume Summit League play on Sunday, Oct. 13, at Denver.
