CHARLESTON, Ill. – Four individual victories and a pair of relay victories led the IUPUI women's swimming and diving team to a pair of wins over Eastern Illinois and Illinois-Chicago Saturday afternoon at Ray Padovan Pool.
The Jaguars improved to 3-0 with a 144.0 to 60.0 win over the Panthers and a 105.0 to 99.0 victory over the Flames.
"There is a lot we can take away from the meets this weekend," head coach
Matt Bos said. "We had some great performances and swam really well down the stretch when the meet was on the line, but we also have a lot of things we can improve on moving forward which is also exciting."
Of the four wins on the day,
Margaret Barber claimed half of those winning the 1,000 freestyle and the 500 freestyle. Barber swam the 40 lengths of the 1,000 free in a time of 10:34.53, the fifth-best time in school history. Barber's other victory also came in a distance free event, the 500 free, where she touched the wall first in a time of 5:10.18.
The other two victories for IUPUI also came from veterans.
Madison Taylor earned the top spot in the 100 free narrowly picking up the win by .45 seconds. Taylor clocked in a 54.28, but in her first true dual meet as a Jag,
Brittani Grove secured a third-place finish with a time of 54.76.
Alexus Laird claimed the final victory of the day for the Jags by winning the 100 backstroke in a time of 58.14.
In addition to relay victories in the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay, five different Jaguars swimmers combined for five second-place showings.
Vanessa Roop placed second in the 500 freestyle behind Barber, while
Madeline Bradford recorded a second-place time of 1:58.34 in the 200 free.
The three other runner-up finishes came from Taylor in the 50 free (24.80),
Mary Klueh in the 100 breast (1:08.52) and
Natalie Trout in the 400 IM (4:41.65). Trout's time in the 400 IM was good enough to move her into ninth in the IUPUI record books.
Following a busy past few days, IUPUI will take next week off before hosting Valparaiso and Butler on Nov. 8, and Wright State on Nov. 9 at the IUPUI Natatorium.
