PEORIA, Ill. - Senior Rachel Zajac continued to add to her storybook season, running an IUPUI 6K school record time of 21:20 at the Bradley "Pink" Classic at Newman Golf Course on Friday (Oct. 18). Zajac lowered her previous school record by more than 30 seconds, helping IUPUI to a seventh-place finish.

"Overall, it was a very solid day for the team. Getting seventh, compared to last year when we got 13th, was a huge positive," IUPUI Head Coach Antonio McDaniel said. "Being right in front of Oakland, who beat us at Notre Dame, was good for us."

Missouri won the 24-team meet with 65 points and host Bradley was second at 81. Marquette (103), Wichita State (131), Saint Louis (136) and Summit League foe South Dakota State (165) all finished ahead of IUPUI's 250-point effort.

Zajac continued to shatter records and was one of 13 Jaguars to notch a new personal record on Friday. Sophomore Leah Brooks, from nearby Dunlap, Ill., ran 22:21 at this meet last year before crossing in 22:02 on Friday for at 44th place finish. Junior Jordan Hanaway was three spots behind her at 22:03, earning herself a spot on the program's all-time bests list.

"Rachel continued her record breaking performance, which was encouraging heading into conference," McDaniel said. "Leah upped her time on the 6K (record) list and Jordan added herself on the all-time 6K list, and actually did it in one shoe.

"She got a shoe kicked off about 800 (meters) in and showed how tough she is by running the whole race with one shoe on."

Fifth-year senior Allie DeBaker was 86th overall at 22:32 and freshman Valeria Guzman continued her second half surge, running 22:39. Her 6K time on Friday was quicker than her 5K college debut as she opened the season by running 22:50 at the Dayton Flyer 5K in late August.

"We were a little bit closer as a pack today, which was great to see," McDaniel said. "Valeria stepped up a lot. She's been coming on strong of late and it was great to see her hard work paying off."

Freshman Savannah Turner and sophomore Julie Riggins filled out the top seven, with Turner running a season-best time of 22:43. Junior Amy Mattingly also posted a new PR, running 23:23 to beat her previous best by four seconds.

Samantha Walkow won the ran at 20:45 while running unattached and Bradley's Sarah McMahon was second at 20:54.

In the open race, Emily Vetor paced the Jaguars' three entries with a personal best time of 24:25.

The Jaguars will have a two-week layoff between now and the Nov. 2 Summit League Championships in Fort Wayne, Ind.. IUPUI will be running the IPFW course for the second time this season after having previously winning the IPFW Invitational on Sept. 7 of this season. Zajac won that race in a time of 22:26.33 and Brooks was second at 22:44.46.
