INDIANAPOLIS - With both teams sitting near the middle of The Summit League standings, the IUPUI men's soccer team will host IPFW in a key conference match on Saturday (Oct. 19) at 7:00 p.m. at Michael A. Carroll Stadium. That match can be seen on
IUPUI LIVE! on IUPUIJags.com as Greg Rakestraw (pbp) calls the action. In addition, the IUPUI men's soccer program will recognize seniors
Ian Block and
Gregory Efiom just prior to the match as part of Senior Night.
An alumni tailgate has also been scheduled and will take place behind the stadium, beginning at 5:30 p.m.. Admission is free of charge while
standard university parking rates will apply.
The embattled Jaguars (1-10-3, 1-1-1 Summit) are on the heels of one of the toughest losses in recent memory, dropping a 2-1 road decision at Cincinnati on Wednesday (Oct. 16) on a goal scored just as time expired in regulation. UC's Ben Keane blasted a shot past IUPUI sophomore
Eduardo Cortes as time expired, stemming from an Alex Rovira corner kick with five seconds left.
IUPUI had just drawn even on a
Jonny Williams goal in the 86th minute and appeared to go in front when
Patrick Henry had a score negated in the 87th minute. Hoffar assisted Williams' goal with a long throw-in, while Block would've been credited with an assist on Henry's score, had it stood.
However, a tussle in the 88th minute resulted in three cards being handed out, including a second yellow to IUPUI freshman
Ayodele Makinde. Playing down a man, IUPUI was disorganized on the match's final play, ultimately resulting in yielding the game-winner.
For the year, four Jaguars are tied for the team-high with two goals scored with Williams being the most recent to join that grouping. Block,
Lance Davis and
Michael Sass also have two each. Freshman
Evan Smith has a team-high two assists and both Block and Davis have a team-high five points.
In goal, Cortes has a 1.97 goals against average and 51 saves in 11 starts.
IPFW (1-10-1, 1-2 Summit) is coming off a 3-1 win over Eastern Illinois, snapping a 10-game losing skid in the process. Oscar Uyamadu leads the Mastodons in scoring with four goals while Corey Tom netted the game-winner last Saturday. In goal, Raphael Kotzock has a 2.90 goals against average and 53 saves in 12 appearances.
IUPUI is 11-8-1 all-time against IPFW and 6-5 in the Division I (1998-pres.) era. The Jaguars have won three of the past four meetings in the series, despite falling 1-0 on the road last season.
