ROCHESTER, Mich. – The IUPUI men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams compete in their final two meets prior to the Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships this weekend when they travel to Rochester, Mich., on Friday, Jan. 25, to take on conference foe Oakland, before returning to Indianapolis on Sunday, Jan. 27, to take part in the Butler Invite in Fishers, Ind.
Friday’s meet against the Golden Grizzlies is set to begin at 3:30 p.m. ET, while Sunday’s meet at Fishers High School is set to kick off at Noon.
“These are our last real competitions before the Summit League Championships and I’m sure we would like to be feeling better than we are, but we have really been training hard in preparation for the conference meet,” head coach
Matt Bos said. “This is a great chance to get in a championship meet environment and get familiar with the surroundings, so we need to take advantage of this opportunity.”
Friday’s meet against Oakland will take place at the OU Aquatic Center on Oakland’s campus, which also serves as the site for the 2013 Summit League Championships. The conference championships take place Feb. 20-23.
The Jags last competed two weeks ago when it took on Marshall, Ball State and Xavier on Friday, Jan. 11, before taking on Marshall, Saint Louis and Western Illinois on Saturday, Jan. 12.
The women’s team defeated Xavier, but fell to Ball State and Marshall that Friday, before taking down Saint Louis, Marshall and Western Illinois that Saturday. The meet on Jan. 12 served as Senior Day for the lone women’s senior,
Elizabeth Bourgeois, and she picked up a victory in the 100 fly in her final home meet.
The men’s team had three seniors compete for the final time at home Jan. 11-12 in
Luke Green,
Mitchell Gauger and
Josh Davis. Despite falling to Ball State and Xavier on that Friday, the Jags responded with a win over Western Illinois on that Saturday thanks in part to Gauger.
Gauger swept the one- and three-meter diving events en route to being named Summit League Men’s Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career on Jan. 15. Gauger posted a pair of wins in the 1- and 3-meter dives in his final home meet against Saint Louis and Western Illinois scoring a 286.60 in the 1-meter, and a Summit League-best score of 322.95 in the 3-meter, which also was a career-best mark.
