ROCHESTER, Mich. - The IUPUI basketball team will return to the road for a quick two-game Summit League trip as the Jaguars will take on Oakland (8-13, 3-4 Summit) on Thursday (Jan. 24) night inside the Athletics Center O'rena. Tipoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. and the game can be heard on WNDE.com and on the free iHeartRadio app as Scott McCauley (pxp) calls the action from courtside. Pregame coverage will begin at approximately 6:45 p.m..

IUPUI (6-16, 1-7 Summit) has dropped six-in-a-row coming in, including Saturday's 80-65 home loss to reigning Summit League champion South Dakota State. With an already shortened bench, IUPUI had three players play all 40 minutes with four starters finishing in double-digits. Junior Mitchell Patton continued his strong play, closing with 17 points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots, despite playing just 21 minutes due to foul troubles. Classmate Donovan Gibbs also recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards in 40 minutes, while Greg Rice added 17 points and five assists from the lead guard spot.

It was the third career double-doubles for both Gibbs and Patton and the second time this year both had a double-double in the same game.

Junior P.J. Hubert returned to the starting lineup and had 12 points on 5-of-12 shooting. All five SDSU starters finished in double-figures, led by Brayden Carlson's 18 points and seven boards. IUPUI won the glass 40-36 and outscored SDSU 34-24 in the paint. However, the visiting Jackrabbits made 7-of-19 (36.8 percent) from three-point range and 47 percent overall in the win.

Oakland won the first meeting between the two schools, 84-62 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Dec. 29. The visiting Golden Grizzlies raced out to an 18-0 lead in the game's opening five minutes and never let the Jaguars get closer than eight the rest of the day. Travis Bader led the Grizz with 27 points and Raphael Carter added 12 off the OU bench.

Sophomore Jordan Shanklin led three IUPUI reserves in double-digits with 17 points and Hubert deposited 14. Patton added 10 points and six boards in just 19 minutes off the bench.

Bader currently leads OU in scoring (20.2 ppg) and is among the nation's leaders with 83 made treys. Sophomore Corey Petros anchors the Oakland interior at 13.0 points and 8.2 rebounds per game while shooting better than 57 percent from the field.

Patton leads the active Jaguars in scoring at 12.9 points per game while Gibbs upped his team-high rebounding average to 6.5 rpg.

Head Coach Todd Howard's squad has been decimated by injuries, leaving just seven healthy scholarship players at his disposal. All three freshmen are sitting out the season and expected to redshirt while top returning scorer Ian Chiles is shelved for the year due to injury. Like Chiles, sophomore swingman Marcellus Barksdale is lost for the year with an injury and the road got even tougher in early January when John Hart was declared ineligible at the start of the spring semester.
