MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING TAKE HOME WINS ON SENIOR DAY

Jags recognized their three seniors prior to their final home meet at the IU Natatorium

INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams concluded their dual meet seasons on Saturday with the both squads defeating Rose-Hulman and the women’s team also taking down Butler.

The women’s team defeated Rose-Hulman 93-9, while the men’s team won 135-67. The women’s team also won over Butler, 82-31.

Brittany Broyer opened the individual events with a personal-best time of 11:00.95 in the 1000 freestyle, which helped her touch the wall in first with the ninth-fastest time in program history.

Elizabeth Bourgeois then followed with a win in the 200 freestyle timing in at 1:57.49, also the ninth-best time in the event in the school record books.

On the men’s side, Tyler Pyle notched the first victory in the 200 freestyle at 1:50.66, and the wins continued to come for the Jags.

Lindsey Hurst claimed a victory time of 25.25 in the 50 freestyle, while Jenny Oleksiak picked up a win in the 200 IM (2:13.66), Margaret Barber won the 100 butterfly (1:02.08), Peyton Zehner took the top spot in the 100 freestyle (54.58), and Broyer took home her second win of the day in the 500 freestyle (5:25.95).

The only other dual winners on the women’s side were Oleksiak and Chen Ni, who won both the 1- and 3-meter dives.

Other individual winners from the men’s side included Alex Rhoda (1:59.10; 200 IM), Tony Carroll (4:48.14; 500 freestyle), Adam Ferguson (1:00.81; 100 breast), and Mitchell Gauger (320.61; 1-meter - 288.15; 3-meter).

Gauger’s one-meter dive mark moved him into sixth in school history.

Prior to the meet, the Jags recognized their 2012 seniors Sara Buchert, Karen Balko, and Ni, who were competing for the final time at the IU Natatorium

The Jags will turn their focus to the 2012 Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships which will take place Feb. 15-18 at the OU Aquatics Center in Rochester, Mich.
