INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI basketball team looks to continue trending upwards on Saturday (Feb. 4) afternoon when the Jaguars host IPFW in a 1:00 p.m. tipoff inside The Jungle. The game time was moved forward to 1:00 p.m. to minimize traffic and parking implications associated with Super Bowl XLVI being in the Circle City.

Saturday's game can be heard in the Indianapolis-market on 1260 WNDE and worldwide on WNDE.com and via the iHeartRadio app available on smartphones. In addition, the game can be seen live on the web with the IUPUI LIVE! subscription service as Scott McCauley (pxp) calls the action. Reserved tickets are available for just $10 and all IUPUI students with a valid JagTag will be admitted for free. In addition to free admission, students in attendance will be treated to free pizza, courtesy of Chancellor Bantz and the Office of Student Life.

Because of increased traffic in the city due to the Super Bowl, fans are advised to allow extra time for arrival and parking.

IUPUI (9-15, 3-9 Summit) snapped a seven-game losing streak on Wednesday night when the Jaguars dropped Oakland University in a 79-75 thriller. Senior forward Christian Siakam led the way with a career-high 23 points and nine boards and junior sharpshooter Sean Esposito matched his career-best with 18 points off the bench. That inside-outside duo got plenty of help though as sophomore guard Ian Chiles scored 15 points and Summit League Preseason Player of the Year Alex Young finished with 14 points and eight caroms.

Travis Bader led Oakland with 20 points, including six treys.

IUPUI withstood some tests late, including a pair of Reggie Hamilton drives that could've tied or put the Golden Grizzlies in front in the closing minutes. The Jaguars took a five-point lead with 2:16 to play on a Stephen Thomas free throw, but Oakland immediately answered in a big way. Drew Valentine rebounded a Dante Williams miss and was fouled on his putback attempt. Valentine hit the first and missed the second, but crashed the paint and grabbed his own board. He kicked a pass back out to Hamilton, who stuck a three to make it a one-point game. After IUPUI came up empty at the other end, Hamilton had a chance to put the Grizz in front, but was stripped while trying to drive the lane. On the ensuing fast break, Chiles finished in transition and was fouled before capped a three-point play.

Bader answered with a three to cut the lead back to one and Young turned the ball over near midcourt on IUPUI's next trip, giving OU a go-ahead opportunity. Hamilton drove down the right side of the lane and initiated contact, but had his shot roll off the rim to Young underneath the basket. After being fouled, Young split the freebies with 11.9 seconds left. Given one more opportunity, Hamilton again initiated contact but wasn't granted a whistle and misfired on the attempt. Esposito escaped a scrum with the rebound, was fouled and subsequently iced the game at the free throw line.

The Indianapolis-native came off the bench to hit 5-of-9 shots overall and 4-of-7 from three while also grabbing four boards. Esposito hadn't hit a field goal since the Dec. 7 game at Louisville and missed a three-game stretch in January due to injury. On the inside, Siakam continued his late season surge, hitting 11-of-16 attempts on the inside. The Cameroon-native also handed out a team-high three assists and blocked a pair of shots. Chiles finished with a season-high eight boards to accompany his 15 points as the Jaguars dominated the glass in the second half and finished plus-3 in that category.

IUPUI is seeking revenge against the Mastodons after IPFW defeated the Jaguars 72-67 in Fort Wayne back on Jan. 5. Young led all players with 25 points and six boards and Chiles chipped in 13 in the loss. Frank Gaines netted 22 for the 'Dons.

Gaines and Young are two-fifths of an incredible group of scorers in The Summit League, all of whom rank among the country's top 16 in scoring average. Also included in that grouping are Hamilton, Nate Wolters (South Dakota State) and Dominique Morrison (Oral Roberts). Gaines comes in averaging 19.8 points and 5.7 rebounds per game while also leading IPFW in steals (27) and threes made (24). Center Trey McCorkle is IPFW's top low post presence, averaging 11.1 points and 5.1 rebounds per ballgame.
