INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI basketball team will continue a string of five straight games against in-state foes when the Jaguars host Indiana State (4-3) inside The Jungle on Saturday (Dec. 15) night in a regionally televised contest. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m..

The game can be seen throughout Central Indiana on HTSN (RTV6.2) as Greg Rakestraw (pxp) and IUPUI Hall of Famer Bob Lovell (analyst) call the action from courtside. In addition, the radio broadcast will run on WNDE 1260 AM as Scott McCauley (pxp) will describe the action as well. His call can also be heard on WNDE.com and through the free iHeartRadio app available on smartphones.

Saturday's game is the fifth-ever meeting between the two schools with the Jaguars having gone 2-0 in Indianapolis and lost two meetings in Terre Haute, Ind.. ISU won the last meeting in the series, defeating the Jags 72-59 at the Hulman Center in 2009. Current Jags Sean Esposito and Greg Rice both saw limited action in that game, combining for 15 minutes off the bench.

IUPUI's two wins in Indianapolis came on Dec. 20, 2000 by a 72-70 score inside The Jungle and a 62-41 win over the Sycamores at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in 2008.

Current IUPUI Assistant Coach Don Carlisle had a huge performance in the 72-70 win, hitting back-to-back threes late in the contest before Lance Williams ultimately knocked in a 13-footer along the baseline for the game-winner. Carlisle had 27 points on 11-of-17 shooting and added 14 rebounds and a steal. Associate Head Coach Matt Crenshaw contributed five points, five rebounds and six assists in what former Head Coach Ron Hunter called 'by far the biggest win in school history' at the time.

IUPUI (4-8) is coming off a 65-59 win over IU Northwest on Tuesday (Dec. 11) night and is hoping to continue to get healthier as the season wears on. Senior John Hart scored a team-high 18 points in the win and junior guard Ian Chiles tallied 15 off the bench in his second game of the season. With junior center Mitchell Patton sidelined for the second straight game due to injury, sophomore Lyonell Gaines finished with an IUPUI Division I record 19 rebounds and missed tying the program's single-game record by just one carom. Both Gaines and classmate Jordan Shanklin scored eight points each and junior Donovan Gibbs added seven points in the victory.

The win snapped the Jaguars' four-game losing skid and pushed IUPUI's record to 3-1 inside the Jungle this season.

Indiana State has dropped two straight contests including an overtime decision to No. 23/25 New Mexico on Dec. 1 and a 71-63 loss at Morehead State last Saturday. The Sycamores are led by junior point guard Jake Odum, who comes in averaging a team-high 15.1 points, 4.4 assists and 1.6 steals per game, while shooting 49 percent from the floor. Gonzaga-transfer Manny Arop is also averaging double-digits at 10.9 points and 6.4 rebounds per game and Indianapolis-native Khristian Smith is netting 9.4 points per contest.

IUPUI has three players averaging better than 14 points per game on the year, but has yet to have all three healthy at the same time. Hart leads the squad at 15.2 points per game while Patton is second on the squad in both scoring (14.6 ppg) and rebounding (5.7 rpg). Chiles is averaging 14.0 points and 3.5 rebounds per game since his return from injury, but has yet to play with Patton, who has missed two straight dating back to Dec. 5. Gibbs comes in at 8.5 points and 7.3 rebounds per game while Rice is the team's top assist man with 35 in 12 games.

Saturday's game is expected to be a sellout with a limited number of tickets still available. The IUPUI box office will open at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and doors will open at 6:00. Students in attendance will receive FREE 2012-13 Red Zone t-shirts while supplies last.
