The Jaguars are seeking a second straight win after ripping off an 80-66 outcome over Bowling Green in Ann Arbor, Mich. on Tuesday.
Three Jaguars posted new career-highs in the scoring column on Tuesday, led by junior center
Mitch Patton's 27-point, 13-rebound effort. The 6-foot-9 lefty hit 10-of-15 shots en route to his second career double-double. Senior guard
Greg Rice hit for 21 points and sophomore
Jordan Shanklin tallied 12 as the duo combined to hit 10-of-11 shots and all five of their three-point attempts. Patton and
Donovan Gibbs dominated up front, with the latter registering his first collegiate double-double of 10 points and 13 rebounds. It was the first time IUPUI had two players record a double-double in the same game since
Billy Pettiford and
Robert Glenn recorded the feat against Centenary on Jan. 17, 2009.
IUPUI (2-1) shot a sizzling 60.4 percent from the floor, which was the highest mark in the Todd Howard-era. The Jaguars shot better than 70 percent in the second half, outscoring BGSU 44-29 after halftime.
IUPUI comes in at 1-1 all-time against Bradley, although the two schools haven't met since 2002. The Braves won the first meeting, 70-53, on Dec. 30, 2000 in Peoria, Ill. before the Jaguars won the return game, 75-73 on Dec. 21, 2002 in The Jungle. Current Assistant Coach Matt Crenshaw scored the game-winning basket in that contest, breaking a 73 all tie with a driving layup with 6.6 seconds to play. Both
Odell Bradley and
Chris Sanders scored a team-high 21 points each in the victory. Oddly enough, Bradley's top reserve in that game was current Indiana Pacers star Danny Granger, who netted 19 points off the bench in the loss.
This year's Braves come in at 2-0 after home wins over Eastern Illinois (76-53) and Texas-Pan American (78-61). Head coach Geno Ford's squad has shown a balanced attack with seven players averaging between 7.5 and 13 points per game. Tyshon Pickett leads the Braves in scoring (13.0 ppg) and is tied for the team lead in rebounding (7.0 rpg). Sixth-year senior Will Egolf comes in netting 12.5 points per game and is shooting 69.2 percent from the field. Both Walt Lemon, Jr. and Dyricus Simms-Edwards also come in averaging double-digits.
