IUPUI (1-0) opened the year with a 67-54 home win over Utah Valley on Friday, led by senior John Hart's 19-point, four assist effort. Hart scored six early points to fuel an 8-0 run after UVU had scored the first basket of the game. Hart hit 8-of-14 shots, including three threes, helping the Jaguars build a 24-point lead in the early portion of the second half.

Junior center Mitchell Patton scored a career-high 15 points and grabbed seven boards while both Donovan Gibbs and Greg Rice added 10 points each. Rice also handed out a career-high five assists in 29 minutes work while Gibbs grabbed a career-high nine boards as IUPUI won the glass 36-33.

However, it was the Jaguars' defense that was most impressive, forcing 18 turnovers and limiting Utah Valley to just 38.9 percent shooting. UVU made just 36.7 percent of its second half field goal attempts and just 5-of-17 three-point tries in the loss.

Conversely, IUPUI made eight threes with five different Jaguars contributing to that total. Rice was 2-of-3 and both Jordan Shanklin and #P.J. Hubert# hit first half treys as IUPUI built a 43-26 advantage at the break.

Michigan dispatched Slippery Rock, 100-62 in its season opener on Friday, getting 25 points and 10 rebounds from Tim Hardaway, Jr.. Trey Burke added 21 points and eight assists and Glenn Robinson III had 10 points and eight rebounds. The Wolverines hit 12-of-19 threes and shot 58 percent overall from the floor.

IUPUI is 0-1 all-time against Michigan, having lost 84-79 on Jan. 4, 2003 at Crisler Arena. The Jaguars are 1-2 all-time at Crisler Arena, having lost to Northeastern in the 2008 season opener as part of the Coaches vs. Cancer event. The Jaguars rebounded to defeat Michigan Tech the following day, 65-51 for their lone win on Michigan's home floor.
