INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI women’s swimming and diving took on a talented Evansville team Saturday afternoon at the IU Natatorium and earned four individual victories, but the Purple Aces defeated the Jaguars, 146-95.

“The women's meet was decided by a lot of close races and unfortunately we came out on the wrong end a few to many times, but I have to hand it to Evansville,” head coach Matt Bos said. “Our girls swam great and [Evansville] was just a little better. The medley relay team being disqualified was not the way we wanted to start out, but we bounced back and competed well. #Alexus Laird continues to have a great season and Jennifer Oleksiak# has really stepped up over the past few meets.”

The first of IUPUI’s four victories on the day came from Oleksiak in the 200 IM. She not only won the event in 2:10.20, but Oleksiak posted the third-best time in school history.

From there, Elizabeth Bourgeois swam the 200 fly in 2:11.92 to earn the victory, while Laird and Margaret Barber both followed with wins in the 200 backstroke and 500 free, respectively. Laird’s 200 back mark also was the third-best time in program history.

Additionally, two other Jags posted all-time Top-10 times. Natalie Trout managed to post the seventh-best time in Jags history in the 1000 free at 10:49.37, while Mercedez Bray posted the third-best time in the 200 breast at 2:26.13. Both Trout and Bray finished second in their races.

The Jags have nearly three weeks off before returning to action Nov. 30 – Dec. 2, when IUPUI hosts the House of Champions meet at the IU Natatorium.

“From here we just need to stay focused on our training and prepare for the House of Champions, which is a huge meet for us in terms of preparing for the Summit League Championships in February,” Bos said. “Having a three-day, prelim/final meet when you are in heavier training, will go a long way in getting us ready for our conference meet.
