INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI women’s swimming and diving team won all 12 events Friday evening in its first meet since the middle of October as it defeated Valparaiso, 151-54, at the IU Natatorium.
“We were able to get some of our people in some different events tonight, which was nice to see some different times. The people who swam in their typical events put up some great swims,” head coach
Matt Bos said. “
Jennifer Oleksiak's school record in the 100 breast was a great swim and
Mary Klueh was right behind her and swam one of the top times in school history as well. The other swim that really stood out was
Alexus Laird in the 200 free. She has worked really hard over the past six months to put herself in a position to swim great times in a number of events.”
The highlight of the night came from Oleksiak in the final individual event of the night, the 100 breaststroke. Oleksiak clocked in at 1:06.96, besting her own school record in the event set at last year’s Summit League Championships. Klueh finished second in the event at 1:07.47, and that time moved her into fourth in school history.
Margaret Barber got things started for IUPUI in the opening individual event winning the 1,000 freestyle in 10:41.26. Barber’s time marked the third-best time in the school record books.
From that point, Laird and
Mercedez Bray both went on to become dual event winners. Laird claimed victories in both the 200 freestyle and the 100 backstroke in times of 1:55.84 and 58.09, respectively. Laird’s 200 free mark was the sixth-best time in school history, while the 100 back time ranks third.
Bray captured wins in the 200 IM and the 100 fly and clocked times of 2:15.59 and 1:00.89, respectively.
IUPUI had three other event winners in the 50 freestyle, the 100 freestyle and the 500 freestyle.
Madison Taylor took home top honors in the 50 free clocking in at 25.71, before
Peyton Zehner swam the 100 free in 55.29. The win in the 500 freestyle came from
Brittany Broyer.
The Jags continue a busy weekend of competition on Saturday, Nov. 10, when they welcome Evansville to the IU Natatorium. The meet is set to begin at 2 p.m.
