ROCHESTER, Mich. - Coming off its first Summit League win of the season, the IUPUI women's soccer team will hit the road for a final time in 2012 when the Jaguars take on Oakland (Oct. 26) and Fort Wayne (Oct. 28) this weekend. The match at Oakland is slated to kickoff at 7:00 p.m. while the match in Fort Wayne is slated to kick at 1:00 p.m..
IUPUI (3-12-2, 1-3-2 Summit) won a thriller over Omaha in the 2012 home finale on Sunday, getting two early goals before clinging to a 2-1 victory. Freshman
Kalli Shepler-Tucker assisted on the first goal and netted the game-winner and sophomore
Taylor Heidorn pocketed her first goal of the season. Shepler-Tucker added to her team-high assist total with her fourth helper of the season and junior defender
Sarah Carlisle added her first assist of the season.
Junior goalie
Giselle Guzman pitched a shutout in the first half before giving way to
Kristin Haseley at the break. Haseley yielded a score and made three stops in her first action in just over a month. After allowing a score in the 73rd minute, Haseley and the Jaguars' defense blanked UNO the rest of the way.
Offensively, it may have been IUPUI's most crisp 90 minutes of the season. The Jaguars dominated possession in the first half, outshooting the Mavs 13-2 en route to a 15-8 shot advantage.
Junior
Ashley Doreski continues to lead the Jaguars in goals (4) and points (8) and Shepler-Tucker is second on the squad with six points. Both
Grace Perkowitz and
Mackenzie Calvert have two goals apiece and Guzman continues to build on an already spectacular junior campaign.
The California-native has a 1.67 goals against average and .818 save percentage in 16 matches. Her 99 saves are tops in the league and she's on the cusp of recording the fifth 100+ save season in school history.
Oakland (7-5-3, 4-2) has dropped two out of three on the road after beginning The Summit League schedule 3-0. The Golden Grizzlies lost 3-2 at Fort Wayne in their lone match last weekend. For the season, Kyla Kellerman leads The Summit in goals (8) and points (19) while teammate Abigail Haelewyn paces the league in assists (9). Both Meghan Reynolds and and Marlen Knoph have four goals and three assists apiece this season. Shannon Coley is OU's top goalkeeper with a 1.07 goals against average and 49 saves in 12 matches.
IUPUI is 3-12 all-time against the Grizz and has lost the last two meetings in the series. Head coach
Chris Johnson's team last won in Rochester on Oct. 10, 2008 by a 3-1 score.
Fort Wayne (8-6-1, 4-1-1) enters the weekend unbeaten in five straight matches with four of the outcomes being wins. Arianne Mason and Danielle Bishop lead a balanced Mastodon attack with four goals and an assist each while Tylar Allison has a team-high four assists. IPFW's top five attackers all have at least 20 shot attempts led by Bishop's 29 tries. In goal, Sam Pavlika owns a 1.03 goals against average and 65 saves in 15 starts.
IUPUI is 3-6-1 all-time against the 'Dons and has lost two straight to IPFW. IUPUI's last win in Fort Wayne came on Oct. 3, 2008 by a 2-1 score.
