Jaguars to play at South Dakota State (Oct. 12) and North Dakota State (Oct. 14)

10/10/2012 2:25:00 PM

BROOKINGS, S.D. - The IUPUI women's soccer team will face a daunting task this weekend when the Jaguars hit the road for the first time in Summit League action. Head coach Chris Johnson's squad will play at South Dakota State on Friday (Oct. 12) at 7:00 p.m. Eastern before heading north to take on North Dakota State on Sunday (Oct. 14) at 1:00 p.m. Eastern.

IUPUI (2-11-1, 0-2-1 Summit) comes in needing a win after getting just one point in the standings in the first three league games. The Jags have been held scoreless in Summit League play since exploding for four goals at DePauw on Sept. 20. Defensively, Johnson's squad has been dominant over the past four games, yielding just three goals in 380 minutes for a 0.71 goals against average.

Junior Giselle Guzman has continued her recent brilliance, upping her save total to 79 while dropping her goals against average to 1.91. The California-native has yielded 20 goals total in her 13 appearances.

Offensively, junior Ashley Doreski continues to lead the attack with three goals while freshman Kalli Shepler-Tucker has a team-high three assists. Shepler-Tucker fired a season-high six shots in the loss to Western Illinois last weekend, putting four on frame. Both Mackenzie Calvert and Grace Perkowitz have two goals each this year.

SDSU (2-9-1, 0-3 Summit) will be opening a four-game homestand this weekend after having lost four straight matches, all on the road. The Jackrabbits' lone home win this year came over Northern Iowa by a 4-0 score back on Sept. 16. The Jacks have gotten three goals each from Diana Potterveld, Stacy Guijarro and Darci Miller and Christa Nyblom has two goals and three assists. Despite being nearly even with their opponents in shot attempts, SDSU has been outscored 24-12 in 12 matches. Elisa Stamatakis has started all 12 games in goal, notching a 1.88 goals against average and 39 saves total.

IUPUI is 2-6-0 all-time against SDSU and just 1-2 in the three previous meetings in Brookings. The Jackrabbits won last year's meeting on Oct. 9, 1-0 in Indianapolis.

NDSU (4-8, 1-2 Summit) has lost two straight since knocking off SDSU 2-1 in double overtime on Sept. 29. The Bison are 2-0 at home this year with the SDSU win and a prior 2-1 double overtime win coming over Bemidji State. Anisha Kinnarath leads the NDSU attack with three goals and a team-high four assists in 11 games. Jordyn Wallenborn and Lizzie Lukas have also scored three goals, contributing to the team's 16 on the year. Sierra Bonham has been NDSU's top keeper, registering a 1.46 goals against average and .824 save percentage in 10 starts.

IUPUI is 4-4-0 in the series with NDSU, but 0-3 all-time in Fargo. NDSU has won two straight over the Jaguars including a 2-0 decision in Indianapolis on Oct. 7, 2011.
