INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI basketball team will be hosting Oral Roberts on Saturday (Jan. 14) night as part of Homecoming Week 2012 and capping a two-game Summit League homestand. The game is scheduled to tip at 7:00 p.m. and has been called a White Out as IUPUI fans are urged to wear white in support of the Jaguars.
Saturday's game can be heard in the Indianapolis-market on WNDE and worldwide on WNDE.com and via the iHeartRadio app available on smartphones. In addition, the game can be seen live on the web with the
IUPUI LIVE! subscription service as Scott McCauley (pxp) calls the action. Reserved tickets are available for just $10 and all IUPUI students with a valid JagTag will be admitted for free. Students in attendance will receive complimentary rally towels and other freebies courtesy of Indiana Members Credit Union.
After having won six straight, the Jaguars have dropped three-in-a-row including Thursday's 72-64 loss to Southern Utah. Sophomore
Ian Chiles led four Jags in double-digits with 14 points while the senior trio of
Alex Young,
Stephen Thomas and
Christian Siakam all tossed in 10. Young tallied his 2,000th career point late in the first half becoming just the third in school history and 11th in Summit League history to reach that number. IUPUI fell behind by eight in the opening minutes and never led in the first half en route to a seven-point halftime deficit.
Sophomore Mitchell Patton helped spur a 7-0 run that gave the Jaguars a brief two-point second half lead, but the visiting T-Birds answered with a three to kickoff a 7-0 run of their own. The Thunderbirds maintained the lead the rest the night and held a two possession lead over the final 2:45 of the contest. Ray Jones, Jr. led the hot shooting Thunderbirds with 21 points and both Ramell Taylor and Jackson Stevenett tallied 19 each. SUU hit nearly 60 percent from the floor and held IUPUI to just 40 percent in the defeat.
Siakam made the most of his return to the starting lineup, going 4-of-4 from the floor and grabbing six boards in 26 minutes work and Patton added nine points in limited action off the bench.
ORU (15-4, 7-0) is riding an eight-game winning streak including a 71-70 double overtime win at Western Illinois on Thursday night. The streak began with back-to-back wins over nationally ranked Xavier on Dec. 18, followed by a home win over Texas Tech at the Mabee Center. Senior swingman Dominique Morrison has shouldered the load during the winning streak, upping his scoring average to 20.2 points per game. Behind him, junior guard Warren Niles (11.2 ppg), fifth-year senior forward Michael Craion (11.1 ppg) and sophomore big man Steven Roundtree (10.9 ppg) all come in netting double-digits. Craion is the team's top rebounder at 6.4 per game as the Golden Eagles are outrebounding foes by 3.5 per game.
ORU is 20-10 all-time against the Jaguars with the two teams having split 12 meetings in Indianapolis. The Golden Eagles took all three meetings a year ago including a six-point win in the semifinals round of The Summit League Tournament in Sioux Falls, S.D. on Mar. 7.
Saturday's festivities will include a recognition of the
2012 IUPUI Hall of Fame Class and the presentation of the 2012 Homecoming Court at halftime.
