OXFORD, Ohio - Rain and lightning wreaked havoc on the gameplan as IUPUI runners took part in the Miami Invitational. Only three Jaguars were able to take to the track in the 5,000 meter run as delays pushed events backwards throughout the day.
Sophomore
Rebecca Downs led IUPUI's three entries in a time of 19:00.40 and classmate
Kaci Verkamp crossed at 19:03.34.
"Becca ran a very competitive race. She's been battling illness all week, but really ran tough," IUPUI Head Coach
Joni Sanders said. "Kaci ran significantly better than she did last week."
Sanders was especially impressed with the third entry as junior
Allie McGraw ran a time of 19:50.49.
"It was the best race of her collegiate career," Sanders said. "It was a really productive day for those three girls. The others will just have to wait until next week."
Top seeded Kelsey McHugh won the event in a time of 16:46.83, bettering the field by more than 30 seconds. The Ohio State senior missed the meet's 25-year old record by just over two seconds.
IUPUI will return to action on Saturday, Apr. 16 when the Jaguars take part in the Dave Rankin Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind..
