SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The IUPUI basketball team will enter the 2011 postseason as the No. 3 seed and will take on No. 6 UMKC in the quarterfinals round of The Summit League Tournament inside Sioux Falls Arena in Sioux Falls, S.D.. Tournament action will begin on Saturday (Mar. 5) night while the Jaguars will play UMKC at 9:30 p.m. Eastern on Sunday (Mar. 6) in the fourth quarterfinal.
Scott McCauley (play-by-play) will call the action from courtside on 88.3 FM / The Walk with pregame coverage beginning at approximately 9:25.
IUPUI (18-13, 12-6) split the regular season series with UMKC (16-13, 9-9) with each team holding serve at home. The Jaguars closed the year by alternating wins and losses over the final seven games while UMKC comes in on a three-game slide.
Oakland University will enter The Summit League Men's Basketball Championship as the top seed looking for a repeat of its 2010 title. Eight teams begin play at the tournament in Sioux Falls, S.D., on Saturday, March 5 and will determine The Summit League's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament in the championship game on Tuesday, March 8.
The Golden Grizzlies (22-9, 17-1) were the first Division I team to clinch an outright league title when they secured their second consecutive regular season crown on Feb. 17. Oakland, who enters the tournament riding a five-game win streak, matched its league record for victories (17) and winning percentage (.944) set a year ago and leads The Summit League in six team statistical categories, including scoring offense (84.8 ppg). OU will take on No. 8 Southern Utah (11-18, 7-11) in the first quarterfinal at 7 p.m. on March 5 (Midco Sports Net).
The second quarterfinal of the night features No. 2 seed Oral Roberts (17-14, 13-5) and No. 7 North Dakota State (14-14, 8-10) at 9:30 p.m. (Midco Sports Net) in a rematch of last year's quarterfinal that ORU won 65-64 in overtime. The Golden Eagles own a league-best eight-game win streak entering the tournament and are 11-2 in their last 13 games.
Quarterfinal play resumes Sunday with No. 4 IPFW (18-11, 11-7) vs. No. 5 South Dakota State (18-11, 10-8) at 7 p.m. (Midco Sports Net/ESPN Full Court/ESPN3) in a rematch of last year's 4 vs. 5 game won by IPFW, 71-66. The Jags will conclude the night against UMKC at 9:30 p.m. (Midco Sports Net/ESPN Full Court/ESPN3).
The winners of the 1 vs. 8 and 4 vs. 5 games will meet in the first semifinal Monday at 7 p.m. (Midco Sports Net/ESPN Full Court/ESPN3) while the winners of the 2 vs. 7 and 3 vs. 6 games will advance to the second semifinal at 9:30 p.m. (Midco Sports Net/ESPN Full Court/ESPN3).
Tuesday's championship game is set for 9 p.m. Eastern and will be broadcast live on ESPN2.
The Summit League will be playing its tournament in Sioux Falls for the third consecutive season. For the second straight year, all men's and women's tournament games will be televised, including five men's contests that will have a national reach via ESPN Full Court plus the title game that will air nationally on ESPN2.
