On the floor, IUPUI (4-8) seeks to extend a season-best two-game winning streak while snapped Ball State's (6-2) six-game winning streak in the process. BSU beat IUPUI back on Nov. 23 to begin the current winning streak with a
69-62 victory at Worthen Arena. Jarrod Jones led all players with 26 points while
Stephen Thomas paced IUPUI with 18, including four treys. Freshman
Marcellus Barksdale added 12 points in 25 minutes off the bench.
IUPUI will be playing at Conseco for the 10th time in school history, having notched a 5-4 record coming in. The Jaguars are 5-3 all-time when playing as the home team at Conseco and have won three of their past four outings inside the NBA facility including a pair of games last season.
Head coach
Todd Howard's team is on a modest two-game winning streak including Friday's 75-55 win over St. Joseph's (Ind.) inside the Jungle. Freshman
Lyonell Gaines led four Jaguars in double-digits with a career-high 17 points and sophomore center Mitchell Patton added his first-ever double-double with 13 points and 10 boards. Seniors
Alex Young and
Stephen Thomas also finished with 13 each. IUPUI surged out to a quick lead and overcame extended cold spells in both halves to come away with the win. The Jaguars shot 44 percent from the floor and did the bulk of their damage on the interior, hitting just 3-of-10 from three.
Young continues to lead the team in scoring at 19.4 points per game while Thomas is second at 10.2 per. Young is also IUPUI's top rebounder at 6.7 a game and also leads the squad in blocked shots (10), threes made (22) and free throws made (57).
Ball State is led by senior center Jarrod Jones in the middle, who averages a team-high 20.0 points, 9.1 rebounds and 1.3 blocked shots a night. The 6-foot-9 Michigan City-native has made 59.4 percent from the floor and 85.4 percent at the charity stripe to lead his team in both categories. Sophomore reserve Jesse Berry is second on the team in scoring at 10.9 points per game and senior point guard Randy Davis comes in averaging 7.8 points and 7.8 assists per game. BSU's most recent victory was a 58-55 triumph over Butler in Muncie on Dec. 10.
