JAGUARS HOST BUTLER, CENTRE COLLEGE FRIDAY EVENING

IUPUI looks for another impressive showing on Friday

INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI men's and women's swimming and diving teams open a busy week of home competition on the IUPUI campus this weekend when they host Butler and Centre College in a tri-meet Friday evening at the IUPUI Natatorium. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.

"We trained hard prior to the season and in my opinion we have performed well in our first two meets," said head coach Matt Bos. "The training has picked up this week so it will be good to see how they respond on Friday."

Despite the fact that school records didn't fall last week like they did in the opening week of competition, both teams performed well against Eastern Illinois and each picked up impressive victories.

A season ago at the Summit League Championships, both EIU's men's and women's squads finished two spots ahead of IUPUI, but the men's team posted a 141-79 win and the women's team picked up  a 161-68 victory over the Panthers.

While several athletes etched their names onto IUPUI's Top 10 charts, Tony Carroll was a part of three victories helping him garner his first Summit League Men's Athlete of the Week honor.

The Granger, Ind.-native opened the meet with a narrow victory in the 200 IM, clocking in at 1:59.23 to win the race by .59 seconds over EIU's Michael Lacine.

In the 200 backstroke, Carroll cruised to a victory touching the wall in 1:57.37, before pacing the 400 freestyle relay squad to a time of 3:17.02 with an opening-leg swim of 48.07.

Friday's meet will be the final tune-up before hosting the annual House of Champions meet Nov. 11-12. For the House of Champions meet, the Jaguars welcome Ball State, Xavier, Butler, Western Illinois, Eastern Illinois and Ohio Wesleyan to the IUPUI Natatorium.
