INDIANAPOLIS – Following a strong performance in their opening week of competition at the Indiana Intercollegiate, the IUPUI men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams open their home schedule this weekend competing in a dual meet against Eastern Illinois on Friday, Oct. 21, at 5:30 p.m. at the IUPUI Natatorium.
“We had a strong showing last week in our opener, but I think all of our student-athletes are excited to compete at home for the first time this weekend,” said head coach
Matt Bos. “We have a lot of newcomers who will experience competing in this historic building for the first time which is always exciting.”
Last weekend, two school records fell on the women’s side.
Chen Ni broke her own school record in the 3-meter dive scoring 317.60 to best her previous record by nearly 2.0 points, while the other school record came from a freshman in her first collegiate meet.
Margaret Barber timed in at 5:09.87 in the 500 freestyle, breaking the previous school record by almost .80 seconds in her first collegiate meet. Barber, who won the Iowa state championship in the 500 freestyle as a senior, also moved into the Top 10 in school history in the 200 freestyle posting the eighth-fastest time of 1:57.93.
This weekend’s meet against Eastern Illinois marks the first of three straight home meets for IUPUI. Following Friday’s meet, the Jags host Butler and Centre College on Friday, Oct. 28, before hosting the House of Champions Meet Nov. 11-12.
