JAGUAR SWIMMERS CLOSE REGULAR SEASON AT DEPAUW

Men drop dual to DePauw, while women beat Butler

GREENCASTLE, Ind. - The IUPUI swimming and diving teams closed the book on the 2009-10 regular season on Friday night, taking on DePauw and Butler at the Erdmann Natatorium.  The men dropped their dual with the Tigers, 166-94, while the women scored a victory over Butler, 158-96, but fell to DePauw, 204-70.

Michael Steurer picked up a win for IUPUI, cruising to a win in the 100 backstroke, reaching for the wall in 54.51; Steurer won by nearly four seconds over his closest competitor.  The junior added to his haul in the 200 back, taking a win by over four seconds with a time of 1:57.49.

Tyler McGowan closed the regular season with a win in the 200 butterfly, hitting the wall in 1:58.21.  McGowan will look to be among the finalists in the 200 fly at The Summit League Championships in two weeks.

Both Craig Noakes and Andrew Heideman tuned up their performance in the 200 breaststroke, going 1-2 while each broke the 2:20 barrier.  Noakes posted a time of a 2:19.44, while Heideman was right behind in 2:19.72.

Elizabeth Bourgeois continued to show that she will be among the Jaguar swimmers to watch in two weeks, winning the 200 fly with a time of 2:16.60.  Later in the meet, Bourgeois dominated the 100 fly, swimming in 1:01.03 to pick up her second win of the meet.

Natalie Jarrett took runner-up finishes in both the 200 breaststroke and 100 back, posting a 2:17.03 in the 200 and a 1:03.38 in the back.  Jarrett was third in the 200 IM.

The regular season concluded, the Jaguars will begin preparations for The Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships, which will be contested Feb. 18-20 at the IU Natatorium.
