INDIANAPOLIS - On the night when former IUPUI great George Hill's No. 3 jersey was retired, the current collection of Jaguars strutted their stuff on their way to a 103-65 pasting of UMKC inside The Jungle on Thursday. The Summit League's top two scorers coming in - Robert Glenn and Alex Young - led the way with 55 points combined in the victory. Both also handed out a career-high five assists as the Jags dished 21 dimes on a season-high 38 field goals.

The 103 points were the most by an IUPUI team in over six years as the Jaguars blistered the nets at a 68 percent clip. The Jags came into Thursday's game ranked fourth in the country in field goal shooting.

"Man, we were absolutely awesome offensively tonight. We did a good job of getting in the passing lanes and creating some easy opportunities," IUPUI Head Coach Ron Hunter said. "And to be honest, I think some of my guys were trying to show off a little with George being here. They wanted to show him that they could play a little bit too.

"If we have to retire George's number every night to get the guys to play like this, then I'm all for it."

Young and Glenn fueled a quick burst out of the gates as the Jaguars built a 16-6 advantage in the opening 6:31. UMKC (11-15, 5-10 Summit) got an unexpected lift from Max Rockmann off the bench, who made it 16-13 with a three-point play at the 12:04 mark, but it was seemingly all IUPUI (19-9, 12-3) the rest of the night.

A 15-4 run had it at 31-17 and the Jags didn't miss a single field goal attempt over the final 9:39 of the first half as the lead grew to 49-27 at the break. IUPUI shot an unfathomable 74 percent from the floor in the first half.

A 12-0 run early in the second half ballooned the lead out to 71-41 with 11:15 left on a pair of Jon Avery free throws as reaching the century mark provided any semblance of suspense down the stretch. Redshirt freshman Sean Esposito got the Jags to 100 with a rhythm three from the left wing off an assist from Nick DeSchepper with 1:56 left and added a second for good measure with 44 seconds left.

Glenn scored a game-high 29 points, including hitting 15-of-18 at the charity stripe and Young finished with 26 on a 12-of-17 shooting night. Junior Leroy Nobles hit 4-of-6 from three to finish with 18 and senior Jon Avery was a perfect 6-of-6 to score 14 points off the bench.

IUPUI turned the ball over just 11 times and forced 17 UMKC mistakes leading to a 30-4 advantage in points off turnovers.

"We preach to our guys about valuing every possession and taking care of the basketball. Tonight, aside from a couple careless passes, we did a really good job with that," Hunter said. "Plus, we did a nice job of converting when they gave us extra opportunities."

LaTreze Mushatt led UMKC with 19 points and six rebounds and Jay Couisnard added 10 on just 3-of-12 shooting.

Immediately after the game, Hill's No. 3 jersey became just the second in the men's basketball program's history to earn the ultimate honor, joining the No. 34 last worn by Carlos Knox in 1998. Hunter, current Associate Head Coach Todd Howard and former Assistant Coach Joseph Price all addressed the crowd before handing over the mic to Hill.

"This is an honor and a blessing. I always dreamt of this day and tonight it came true," Hill said. "I hope this will give hope to kids here that don't come from much that they can still make it to the NBA or whatever it is they dream to do. You've just got to believe and work hard and it can happen."

"Tonight was all about George, - this was his night," Hunter said. "He never had a chance to have a senior night, so this was his senior night. I'm really proud of what he's done and what he's going to continue to do."

The 2010 Senior Night will be on Saturday when the Jaguars will honor Avery, Glenn and Billy Pettiford in a pregame ceremony before facing Southern Utah at 7:00 p.m.. Pregame coverage with Scott McCauley (play-by-play) and IUPUI Hall of Famer Jared Lux (analyst) will begin at approximately 6:50 with free audio and subscription video being available via IUPUIJags.com.
