INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI Athletics Department will bestow one of its highest individual honors upon former basketball standout George Hill on Thursday when his No. 3 jersey is retired following the game with UMKC. Hill will be just the second former IUPUI men's basketball player in the program's history to have his jersey retired, joining Carlos Knox's No. 34.

Hill, in his second season with the San Antonio Spurs, is expected to be in attendance as the Spurs are scheduled to play the Indiana Pacers at Conseco Fieldhouse on Wednesday night.

"This is truly an honor for George and all of his accomplishments," IUPUI Head Coach Ron Hunter said. "You're talking about a kid who's the first in his family to attend college and he's going to go down as one of the best players in our league's history. I'm just as proud of the fact that he's going to get his degree; that's something he's set out to do and I know he'll get it done.

"It's only fitting that his number three is honored with this retirement."

Hill became the first former IUPUI player to be chosen in the NBA Draft and appear in a regular season NBA game when the Spurs selected him the first round of the 2008 draft. The 6-foot-2 guard was an AP Honorable Mention All-American and The Summit League Player of the Year in 2008 after averaging 21.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game for the 26-7 Jaguars. He finished 16th in the country in scoring that season, prompting him to declare for early entry in the draft. After an excellent showing at the Orlando Pre-Draft Camp, the Indianapolis-native opted to forego his final season of collegiate eligibility.

The Broad Ripple High School grad finished his IUPUI career with 1,619 career points, ranking fourth on the program's all-time list. He also accumulated 547 rebounds, 317 assists and 155 steals while shooting nearly 53 percent from the floor in 95 career games. IUPUI won better than 65 percent of its games with Hill in the lineup during his 3+ year career.

On the court, IUPUI (18-9, 11-3 Summit) will host UMKC (11-14, 5-9 Summit) in a 7:00 p.m. tip. Pregame coverage with Scott McCauley (play-by-play) and IUPUI Hall of Famer Jared Lux (analyst) will begin on IUPUIJags.com at approximately 6:50.

The Jaguars will be looking to shake off a disappointing 61-60 loss at Oral Roberts as it opens its final two-game homestand of the season. Senior Robert Glenn scored a game-high 28 points in the defeat and was later picked The Summit League Player of the Week for the fifth time this season. The 6-foot-7 Glenn averaged 25.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game and hit his first three collegiate threes in IUPUI's two outings.

IUPUI has won six-in-a-row and nine out of 10 against UMKC including a 65-64 decision back on Jan. 23 in Kansas City. The Jags held the 'Roos scoreless over the final four-plus minutes of that game and withstood two late three-point attempts to escape victoriously. Glenn led IUPUI with 18 points and sophomore Alex Young added 17 in the win.
