SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The IUPUI women’s basketball team returns to action at 4 p.m. today when it takes on Butler in its second game of the 2010 WBCA Classic at the Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center on the campus of the University of Notre Dame.
Butler is coming off an 86-81 overtime loss to Wake Forest in its first game of the tournament yesterday evening. Brittany Bowen led the Bulldogs with a game-high 26 points, while Chloe Hamilton notched a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
Butler looks to shoot the three as evidenced by its 32 attempts from behind-the-arc against the Demon Deacons. IUPUI’s defense of the three-point shot will be one of the keys to the game.
“Butler runs a lot of sets and shoots a lot of three’s, so we’re going to have to cover the three-point line and get back on defense,” said head coach
Austin Parkinson. “Butler is a great program and Coach Couture has done a great job and we’re looking forward to playing them on a neutral floor.”
IUPUI is coming off a 95-29 loss to No. 16 Notre Dame in the opener of the WBCA Classic as Notre Dame’s length proved to be too much to handle.
Despite the loss, the Jaguars hung tough with the nationally-ranked Irish for the first ten minutes before a 21-2 Notre Dame run to end the first half helped the Irish cruise to victory.
Demetria Nunley-Lash set career-highs in both points and rebounds against Notre Dame with seven points and seven rebounds.
“The big three keys for us are we have to get back on defense, we have to rebound, and we can’t turn the ball over. If we can do that, we will put ourselves in position to be successful.”
