SPOKANE, Wash. - The IUPUI basketball team will open up its 2010-11 slate on Sunday when it takes on 12th-ranked Gonzaga in the regional round of the O'Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic at the McCarthy Athletic Center. Scott McCauley (play-by-play) will call the action on 88.3 FM The Walk with pregame coverage beginning at approximately 3:50 p.m. EST for a 4 p.m. tipoff. The game will also be televised on FSN Northwest.
This contest will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
IUPUI comes in at 0-7 all-time against ranked opponents and 1-2 all-time against opponents from the West Coast Conference. The Jaguars only ever win over a West Coast Conference foe was over Pepperdine in the final game of the Rainbow Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii in 2003.
IUPUI breezed through its exhibition slate by beating Anderson and Marian by an average of 27.5 points. Both
Alex Young and
Leroy Nobles led IUPUI with 20 points per game each and junior
Christian Siakam averaged 13 points and nine rebounds in the two wins. Dayton-transfer
Stephen Thomas averaged 10 points per and handed out a team-high 12 assists in his two starts.
Young needs just 16 points to become the 21st member of IUPUI's 1,000 Point Club.
