INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI men's soccer team missed some crucial opportunities and gave up a goal in the game's 97th minute as Xavier came into Kuntz Stadium and stole a 1-0 overtime victory from the Jaguars. XU's Luke Spencer scored the game-winner on a 14-yard drive, setup by a long goal kick to start the play.

"I told the boys that we picked a good night to have a bad game. We didn't lose any ground in the conference tonight," IUPUI Head Coach Steve Franklin said. "We played unattractive soccer tonight and had too many guys trying to do too much.

"I want to compliment Xavier. They're a difficult team to play against and they stuck with the gameplan. Coach Fleming's got them believing and going in the right direction."

Xavier's (3-2-3) gameplan was simple as the Musketeers came in with just four goals scored and four goals allowed in seven games coming in. The guests were content to sit back defensively and pick and choose its opportunities to get forward. Neither team had many scoring chances in the first half, although IUPUI junior goalkeeper Tyler Keever made a highlight reel save in the 32nd minute to keep an Andy Dambi drive out of the net. The rebound then came to Matt Walker, but his attempt was cleared off the line by an IUPUI (5-5) defender.

Xavier continued to have better chances early in the second half until IUPUI flipped the momentum midway through the stanza. The Jags seemingly had victory in hand when a hand ball in the penalty box on a Weston Hawkins' shot attempt in the 83rd minute resulted in a penalty kick opportunity. Unfortunately for the hosts, XU goalkeeper Justin Marshall made a diving stop to his left to keep Derek Craig's PK off the scoreboard. Jeff Keyler drilled the rebound attempt, but it was cleared off the line by an Xavier defender and stayed on the field of play. Keyler tried again, but had that attempt saved and Craig followed with a header attempt that hit the right post.

Keyler capped the flurry with a shot that sailed wide right.

After the majority of the overtime period was played between the 18's, Marshall played a long goal kick to setup the game's only score. Nick Hagglund flicked the goal kick forward and Sean Ryan funneled it into Spencer's feet. Spencer got past Yogi Snider and roofed a shot past Keever, who was charging off his back line.

Keyler and Spencer led all players with four shots each as both teams attempted 14 tries. Keever made two stops in the loss and Marshall had five saves for the victors.

IUPUI will return to Summit League play this weekend when the Jaguars head to Tulsa, Okla. to play at Oral Roberts at 8:00 p.m. EST on Saturday. The Jaguars are 2-0 in Summit League play to start the season.
