FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IUPUI women's soccer team came up on the wrong side of some unfavorable bounces as the Jaguars dropped a key 1-0 Summit League decision to IPFW at Hefner Stadium in Fort Wayne, Ind. on Sunday. IPFW's Tara O'Toole scored the game-winner in the 72nd minute, beating
Kristin Haseley on a breakaway for the game's only goal.
IUPUI (8-10, 4-4 Summit) outshot the hosts 16-12 overall and 8-4 on goal, but was unable to scratch for the second straight game. Just over two minutes in, IUPUI had a quality scoring chance when
Megan Hock had a header glance off the crossbar and back onto the field of play. Freshman
Sarah Wong's rebound attempt was cleared off the line by an IPFW (6-9, 3-4 Summit) defender and then
Chelsi McHenry fired high to end the rally.
In the 34th minute,
Alicia Brock put a strike on frame that IPFW goalkeeper Kristen McFadden pushed aside, setting up an IUPUI corner kick. On the corner,
Natalie Holland had a shot that was blocked by an IPFW defender before it got to goal.
In the 70th minute, McFadden again benefited from a team save as Brock had an attempt cleared off the line by a defender.
The game-winner came when Underwood sent a pass ahead to O'Toole, who had leaked behind the Jaguars' defense.
Brock led IUPUI with four shot attempts, putting all four on frame. Both Hock and Wong had three shots and McHenry and
Kristin Pierce had two each. Underwood led IPFW four shots off the bench.
The loss snapped IUPUI's three-game winning streak over IPFW.
IUPUI will cap the regular season on Sunday, Oct. 31 when it hosts Western Illinois at Kuntz Stadium at 1:00 p.m.. The Jaguars will honor the senior class that day as they play in their final home match.
