DANVILLE, Ky. – The IUPUI men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams continued its three-day, three meet stretch on Friday night against Centre College with the men’s team coming away with a 119-103 triumph, while the women’s team fell short, 110-95.
Tyler McGowan and
Hunter Chiasson each posted a pair of victories to lead the men’s squad and as a whole, the men’s team notched victories in eight events.
McGowan put together the most impressive performance of the evening in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 9:56.24. McGowan’s time ranks third all-time in the IUPUI record books and marks just the third sub-10-minute time in school history. Later in the meet, McGowan crossed the line in a first-place time of 54.81 in the 100 butterfly to register his second victory of the evening.
Chiasson and
Josh Davis collected valuable points in the 200 individual medley posting a 1-2 finish with times of 2:05.96 and 2:06.63, respectively, before Chiasson tacked on nine more points with an individual triumph in the 100 backstroke (55.73).
On the women’s side, Lizzie Bourgeois,
Katelyn Cato, and
Katlyn Huhn were multi-event winners. The trio plus
Lindsey Hurst combined to open the meet with a win in the 200 individual medley relay, while Bourgeois won the 50 freestyle (25.31) and 100 freestyle (54.80), Cato claimed victory in the 100 backstroke (1:02.43), and Huhn defeated the field in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.90).
In other events,
Michael Steurer,
Neal Ross,
Kyle Whitaker, and
Mitchell Gauger each were victorious in the 100 freestyle, 500 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, and 1-meter dive, respectively, while the other lone women’s victory came from
Carrie Ford in the 1,000 freestyle.
The Jaguars head to West Lafayette, Ind., on Saturday, Oct. 23, for the Indiana Intercollegiates, which concludes a three-day, three-meet stretch. Saturday’s meet is set to begin at Noon.
